Chapter 12
This symbol was so rare that he stared at it for several seconds before confirming that Mara had blocked him, not the other way around.
Something clicked in his mind, and he tried calling again, only to get the same electronic message.
Mara had actually blocked him!
What the hell was she trying to pull? Had he somehow shown her he loved her, making her think she could play games with him? Otherwise, how could she possibly block him?
Knox’s face turned ice–cold. Before he could figure out what was going on, Elena suddenly let out a shriek.
“Knox, so you and Mara are already divorced!”
What? Divorced? Hadn’t he and Mara just withdrawn the application?
Knox’s mind went blank for a second, then he whipped around to look at Elena.
The woman’s face was lit up with obvious delight, holding a manila envelope in her hand.
In an instant, Knox felt like he’d been hit by something. That impossible thought jumped into his brain as he strode over and snatched the envelope from Elena’s hands–it contained divorce papers!
His breathing nearly stopped. His fingers trembling, he pulled out the documents to see his and Mara’s signatures staring back at him, along with the official court seal.
She hadn’t gone to withdraw the application today. Instead, she’d agreed to the divorce and gotten the damn papers
finalized!
Knox’s mind went completely blank, something buzzing in his ears, while Elena couldn’t hide her joy.
She knew everything now. No wonder Knox had brought her home and wanted her to move into Mara’s room, even replacing all the furnishings. So this was it–he’d been hiding this surprise all along.
“Knox, so that’s what happened. This time you didn’t agree to withdraw the divorce application with Mara.” Elena’s shy gaze met his.
But Knox felt nothing. How could Mara leave him? How could she actually agree to divorce him!
In that moment, whether it was Elena’s voice or the sounds of the moving crew, he heard none of it. After what felt like forever, he finally managed to squeeze out words through gritted teeth.
“Get out.”

“What?” Elena didn’t catch it.
“I said GET OUT!” he roared.
Elena jumped, startled. She couldn’t know how the man who’d been so gentle with her just moments ago was suddenly yelling at her. She stood there frozen, at a loss.
“Knox, why are you suddenly acting like this? Did Mara say something…”
But Knox had zero interest in dealing with her anymore. He called his security and had Elena thrown out, along with all her movers. Only when the villa was completely empty did Knox finally collapse. He clutched his head, unable to believe that Mara had actually divorced him..
She loved him so much, had begged him humbly ninety–nine times–how could she agree to divorce him!
Knox slammed his fist against the wall. He didn’t believe it. Mara had to be testing him somehow.
His panicked expression gradually turned cold as he called his assistant.
“Get me all the surveillance footage of Mara from this period. I want to know what game she’s playing. And if I find out what I think I will, this time it won’t be as simple as filing for divorce.”
He suppressed his rage as his assistant left.
It wasn’t until evening that the assistant returned, carrying a USB drive, but his expression looked troubled.
“Mr. Knox, we’ve collected everything, but…”
“But what?”
“This might not be what you’re expecting.”
The assistant lowered his head and handed over the USB drive.
Knox stared at it for a few seconds, then plugged it into his computer. He randomly picked a date and saw the day at home when Elena had her allergic reaction. He’d only wanted to know what Mara had been up to lately, but as he watched day after day, his brow furrowed tighter and tighter. Not just the allergy incident, but the banquet, everything else–it was all Elena’s performance, all staged by her. Mara had never done any of it!
If she’d never done anything wrong, then what was there to be jealous about?
Knox suddenly felt his heart sink along with everything else.
Under Elena’s lies, he’d done so many things to hurt Mara.
And Elena–she’d had some serious balls!
He watched in silence until the end, seeing the footage from when he and Mara had parted ways today. After he left,

Mara had walked into the courthouse alone, gotten those divorce papers finalized.
After that, her trail went cold. No clue where she went next.
