Chapter 13
After watching the footage in silence, Knox felt completely drained of strength.
He suddenly realized that Mara had actually tried to explain things to him many times, but he’d always assumed it was just her being jealous and hadn’t given it much thought.
Looking back now, this time around she hadn’t begged for forgiveness like before when filing for divorce.
It was more like Mara’s heart had died from the very beginning.
And all those schemes he’d thought Elena was pulling behind the scenes–he’d mistaken them for Mara’s jealousy. Not only had he failed to help her, he’d actually made things worse, pushing away the person he loved most, step by
step.
He slid down the wall like his legs gave out, the video still looping–taunting him with his own bullshit. And Knox’s heart was ripping apart.
He suddenly shot up and went crazy, smashing everything Elena had moved in–all those couple’s items, all of Elena’s preferences–they had invaded Mara’s room!
Knox slammed each item to the floor, letting out all his pent–up pissiness, but even after trashing the whole room, it wasn’t gonna go back to how it was.
A chill ran through him, as he gradually stopped the meaningless tantrum.
But the panic didn’t ease–hell, it grew, like a tide flooding in, making him realize he might actually lose Mara for
good.
No, impossible, absolutely impossible. She had to be angry with him. He would never divorce her again. Once they remarried, he’d never give Mara a hard time again or let someone like Elena take advantage of the situation.
Thinking about the video pissed him off even more, so he yelled for his assistant.
“Find Mara. I don’t care where she is–track her down! Tell her I’ll remarry her and to stop playing games like this.” His tone turned cold. “And bring Elena to me. There are some things I need to ask her personally.”
“Yes, Mr. Knox.”
The assistant left, and soon Elena was knocking on the villa door.
She really couldn’t figure out what game Knox was playing today–nice to her one minute, nasty the next. But she figured it had to be because Mara had pissed him off somehow. Knox still needed her.
Elena walked in with complete confidence. When she heard “Come in,” she smoothed her skirt and entered.

Chapter 13
“Knox, you wanted to see me?”

She put on her most brilliant, gentle smile, only to see the villa in complete chaos. Everything she’d just had moved in was now in pieces, and Knox stood in the center of it all, his eyes cold and indifferent.
“Elena, do you think you’re already Mrs. Knox?”
Having her ulterior motives suddenly called out, Elena froze for a moment, then gave an awkward laugh.
“Knox, what are you talking about? You and Mara just got divorced, so this…”
“I’m asking you–did you think that because I threw you a few scraps, you could go behind my back and pull that shi with Mara!”
Suddenly Knox raised his voice. He was beyond done giving Elena any kind of pleasant face. If it weren’t for Mara, he wouldn’t even glance at this woman! And yet someone like this had dared to scheme against Mara behind his
back!
“What are you talking about, Knox? What did I do to Mara?” Elena’s face went pale, but she didn’t admit to anything
Knox let out a cold laugh–he’d expected Elena’s reaction. He grabbed her and dragged her into the room where the surveillance footage was still playing, the images hitting Elena right in the face. She hadn’t expected Knox to investigate so thoroughly.
In an instant, her face went ashen as she tried desperately to explain.
“Knox, listen to me. I just couldn’t stand watching Mara make you angry and then try to sweet–talk her way back into your good graces, so I wanted to teach her a lesson…”
Before she could finish, Knox cut her off coldly.
“Teach her a lesson? Looks to me like you wanted to drive her away so you could be my wife! What the hell are you, Elena, that you’d dare lay a hand on Mara!”
Without Mara, Elena was just a useless tool with no purpose whatsoever. The look in his eyes held none of the former indulgence–only ice–cold contempt. What’s more, Elena had actually dared to pressure Mara into divorcing
him.
At this thought, Knox’s expression grew even darker, sending a chill of fear through Elena’s heart.
