Chapter 14
“Whatever you did to Mara, you’re gonna get it back.”
As soon as he said that, two bodyguards stepped forward and grabbed Elena. Before she could even react, Knox’s assistant walked up to her.
“Knox, what are you doing!?”
Elena struggled in panic, sensing something was terribly wrong, but Knox said nothing.
The next second, the assistant raised his hand and slapped her hard across the face. The loud crack echoed as her head snapped to the side, her eyes wide with disbelief.
But before she could get a word of protest out, the assistant’s hand came down again and again, slapping her face until blood trickled from the corner of her mouth and she screamed in pain.
“Knox! What are you doing? It hurts, Knox!”
The more she screamed, the harder the assistant hit her. Knox showed no mercy whatsoever.
“You think you can call me Knox? Without Mara, you’re nothing. And you had the nerve to threaten her.”
His eyes narrowed, and Elena finally understood–Knox was having her beaten because of Mara!
But why? Why was it all about Mara?
Elena was shocked beyond belief. She took a full 99 slaps before the bodyguards finally let her go. By then her face was swollen and red, blood covering her mouth. But what she couldn’t believe even more were Knox’s next words.
“That’s not nearly enough. What you’ve been doing all this time was way worse than this. Elena, you’ve got some serious balls.”
“Now that Mara’s really gone, you’re useless to me.”
The man’s cold words made her suddenly understand everything.
But it was already too late.
Without even a moment’s rest, the bodyguards held Elena down, pried open her mouth, and force–fed her an entire jar of peanut butter. Soon, red welts broke out all over her body and her breathing became labored.
“Knox, I’m… allergic…”
She gasped desperately, her whole body itching and burning, but the bodyguards held her down tight, forcing her to swallow more peanut butter until her eyes rolled back and she was nearly dying from the allergic reaction. Only

then did Knox allow his assistant to get the medication.
Elena was thrown to the floor, completely lifeless.
“That’s for framing Mara with your fake allergy.”
Knox’s words echoed like something from hell. “And for getting those thugs to hurt her–do it.”
Before Elena could even try to explain, fists and feet rained down on her like hail. The bodyguards were much more
built than those street thugs, and every kick landed on her most vulnerable spots.
CRACK!-Her ribs broke and she spat up blood, crying and begging for mercy.
“Knox, I was wrong! I know I was wrong! Please let me go!”
But the man was unmoved.
“We’re just getting started, Elena. You owe way more than this. Until Mara comes back, you’re gonna suffer every bit of pain she went through.”
With that, he turned and left, but the bodyguards didn’t stop–they kept kicking the person curled up on the floor.
After what felt like forever, when Elena felt like her whole body was about to shatter, she passed out.
When she woke up, she was in a hospital.
She weakly opened her eyes and saw the tube in her arm–they were drawing her blood!
Elena wanted to scream and struggle, but her limbs were tied to the bed and she couldn’t move. All she could do was watch helplessly as bag after bag filled with her blood, dizziness overwhelming her as her body showed signs of
critical condition.
“Mr. Knox, if we keep going, this lady’s gonna die,” the nurse said with concern.
“Keep drawing. Keep going. This is what she owes Mara,” Knox said coldly.
Elena weakly lifted her eyes, tears sliding down her cheeks.
Only now did she truly understand Knox–his heart belonged only to Mara! But if that was the case, then what did all that flirting mean, all that tenderness? He was the one who didn’t refuse her advances, he was the one who
didn’t believe Mara!
She let out a wail of despair, but immediately fell back into dizziness from blood loss.
