Chapter 17
The man stared at her steadily.
Yes, it’s all your fault. If it wasn’t for you, Mara never would have left me.”
Hearing his absolutely certain tone, Elena couldn’t help but burst into laughter. She laughed while tears streamed lown her face, and finally it turned into hatred as she glared at him viciously.
‘It’s not my fault–it’s yours! Knox, you know damn well that if Mara hadn’t stopped loving you, she never would have left you! You’re just making excuses for yourself. You don’t want to admit that you’re the one who lost Mara!”
‘Knox, you’re the one who drove Mara away–you, not me! If Mara really loved you, she wouldn’t have left. She’d already been thinking about leaving for a long time!”
‘How pathetic you are, still waiting for her to come begging! But you screwed up, actually went through with the livorce, and now you can’t find her, so you’re freaking out. Knox, you drove her away yourself!”
Elena didn’t give a damn and spilled everything.
Knox looked at her darkly, his face like ice, as if he were looking at trash.
He coldly spat out two words: “Shut up.”
Elena didn’t listen to him–instead, she spoke even louder.
‘You still don’t want to admit it? Well, let me tell you something–no normal person could handle you bringing up divorce 99 times. Mara left because you drove her away!”
‘I said shut up, Elena!”
‘Knox, Mara left because you drove her away–it was you, it was you!”
Knox lunged forward and grabbed Elena’s throat, squeezing so hard that the woman immediately gagged and her eyes rolled back.
‘Psycho, Knox, you’re just a psycho…”
“No wonder Mara left you…”
She strained to speak, feeling the air get thinner by the second–till she was gasping, on the brink of choking.
“Mr. Knox.” His assistant spoke up just in time, bringing Knox back to his senses.
He let go, and Elena’s body went limp as she slid to the floor.

Chapter 17
Knox’s gaze was dark as he turned and left, no longer caring whether Elena lived or died.
He returned to Mara’s room, and looking around, the depression in his heart grew heavier. He wanted to find something to take his frustration out on.
He didn’t dare think about Elena’s words. How could it be that he drove Mara away? How could it be him!
He grabbed his jacket and headed straight to the bar.
Only alcohol could calm the restlessness in his heart now.
Knox didn’t tell anyone–he just buried himself in drinking alone, downing bottle after bottle. When he was almost drunk, someone walked past him talking on the phone.
“You really saw Mara? Don’t worry, she’s already divorced Knox. It’s ridiculous–that spoiled rich boy can’t seriously think anyone could handle that kind of back–and–forth torture, right? Mara lasting through 99 times was pretty impressive.”
He didn’t catch the other words clearly, only heard “Mara.”
Those three syllables were like magic, snapping him back to consciousness. Knox stared at the person and stumbled
over.
“What did you say? Do you know something about Mara? Where is she? Do you know where she is now?”
His sudden appearance startled the guy, who quickly hung up his phone and put on a fake smile.
“Knox, what are you talking about? Did you hear wrong? How would I know where Mara is?”
Knox squinted and recognized one of his buddies.
“Who were you just calling? I definitely heard you–you mentioned Mara’s name! If you don’t talk, you’re not leaving here today!”
Days of pent–up anger left him with zero patience. Knox grabbed his bottle and smashed it on the floor, his face full
of menace.
The guy had never seen Knox like this before. Startled, and knowing the Knox family had the power to actually keep him from leaving, he resigned himself to telling the truth.
“Knox, don’t get pissed when I tell you this, but I think what you did was wrong. Everyone could see how much Mara loved you, but you kept treating her like that–of course she was gonna leave you! I have a friend who says he saw Mara abroad. He likes her and wants to ask her out, so he was checking if you two were really done for good. I didn’t want to tell you, otherwise…”
Knox couldn’t hear the rest of the words clearly.
Mara was abroad–she was abroad! He’d found her!
