Chapter 18
Instantly, his drunkenness vanished. He grabbed the guy by the collar, demanding to know Mara’s exact location,
and learned she was now in Paris.
She’d gone to Paris.
Hope flared inside him–he couldn’t wait another second. He had to win Mara back. He’d break his old habits, never again test her love or hurt her.
Knox immediately booked the earliest flight. Without packing anything, he raced to the airport.
In ten hours, he’d see Mara again.
On the plane, Knox’s nerves were shot. Through targeted investigation, he’d finally tracked down Mara’s whereabouts–she’d gone to a design studio in Paris, returning to her design work.
That was fine. As long as she came back, Knox could set up a studio for her to play around with. Not only that, he could get the Knox family to invest. As long as she was happy, it was just design work–he could accept that.
As for the people Mara was close to… he didn’t want the woman he loved getting too cozy with others, but if it made Mara happy, he could arrange for them to return to the States too. With the Knox family’s backing, their prospects would definitely be better domestically than abroad.
Most importantly–would Mara forgive him?
For ten hours straight, Knox never closed his eyes to rest. He’d figured it all out–if Mara wouldn’t forgive him, then he’d prove to her that his love surpassed life itself. As long as she’d have a change of heart, this time he’d be the one begging her.
Whatever it took, he could accept it.
With his nerves on edge, Knox got off the plane and headed to the studio where Mara was working.
Just open this door, and he’d see her.
Knox’s heart clenched tight. He didn’t know what kind of attitude Mara would have toward him. Did she miss him he way he missed her, or did she hate him?
After a few minutes of steeling himself, he knocked. Soon the door opened–a woman he didn’t recognize,
‘Hello, can I help you?”
Knox smiled. “I’m looking for Mara. Is she in?”
“Oh, you’re looking for Mara? She’s not here right now. Mara’s on a date today. If you want her to design something,

you’ll have to come back tomorrow.”
The woman said it casually, but it hit Knox like a punch to the gut.
How long had they been divorced, and Mara was already dating someone else?
Indescribable emotions churned inside him. He suddenly remembered what his buddy at the bar had
mentioned–someone had beaten him to finding Mara and was pursuing her.
His fists clenched tight. He wanted nothing more than to rush to Mara’s side right now and tell everyone she belonged only to him. Even if they were divorced, they’d remarry and be together again–there was no room for anyone else to butt in.
He held back his urge to demand where exactly Mara had gone on her date and who she was with, clenched his fists, and left. He stood outside the door for a while, then went to Mara’s apartment. She wasn’t home now, so he’d wait until she came back.
He could prove his sincerity to Mara.
Paris days were sweltering, and there was no shade by the door. Knox stood there under the blazing sun. He waited all day until sunset, but Mara never came home. Then at night it started pouring, with thunder booming across the sky. In weather like this, you could easily get hurt if you didn’t take shelter inside, but Knox stayed put, letting himself get soaked without budging an inch.
But for a day and a night, Mara never came back.
Knox waited until he was dizzy and lightheaded. He hadn’t rested in days to begin with, and after getting caught in that downpour, the fact that he was still standing was a miracle.
His face was as white as a sheet, breathing like a freight train–and before long, he collapsed.
