Chapter 6
For the rest of the night, Knox went overboard showing off with Elena. Feeding her food, wrapping his arm around her waist, whispering in her ear.
But every few minutes, his gaze would drift toward Mara without him realizing it. But she remained completely unmoved.
After the party ended, Mara went to the restroom to touch up her makeup. The moment she walked out, Elena cornered her in the hallway.
“Did you see that?” Elena waved her phone, showing a photo of her and Knox’s passionate kiss on the screen. “Knox likes me. Be smart and hurry up with the divorce. Don’t go crawling back begging to get back together this time.”
Mara didn’t even bother looking at her and turned to leave.
Elena got pissed seeing Mara act so indifferent–all her carefully planned drama was like punching cotton. She gritted her teeth and raised her hand to slap Mara, but suddenly heard familiar footsteps in the hallway.
Her expression changed instantly, and she switched tactics-
“Slap! Slap!”
The sharp sound of slaps echoed in the restroom as Elena hit herself hard twice, her pale cheeks immediately swelling red.
The next second, the restroom door burst open.
“Knox!” Elena instantly burst into tears, stumbling into Knox’s arms. “Mara… she hit me…”
She sobbed, “Just because I played that game with you…”
Knox held Elena, but his eyes were locked on Mara. He’d been confused all night about why Mara showed no
reaction to his intimacy with Elena, but now he finally got it–she was secretly jealous.
This realization sent a wave of secret satisfaction through him, but on the surface, his expression grew even darker.
“It was just a game. You really gonna get that jealous?” Knox said coldly. “Besides, we’re getting divorced. Who I’m with and what I do has nothing to do with you.”
He stared at Mara’s pale face, saying each word deliberately: “Mara, hurting Elena won’t work. If you want to get back together, show me some real sincerity.”
“I didn’t hit her.” She said calmly. “She did it to herself-”
“Enough!” Knox cut her off. “Since you love playing these games so much, you can stay here and think about it

tonight.”
“Bang!”
The door slammed shut, followed by the clear sound of a lock clicking.
Mara pounded on the locked door until her palms were red and numb.
After what felt like forever, the lock finally clicked open. She sighed with relief and was about to leave when three thugs blocked her in the dead end of the hallway.
The blonde leader grabbed her by the hair and snarled: “You’re Mara?”
“I’m not…” Mara sensed trouble and tried to run, but took a hard punch to the stomach.
The sharp pain made her double over instantly, but another guy yanked her up by her hair.
“Slap!” A blow hit her so hard her eardrums rang and blood trickled from the corner of her mouth.
“Pretty face, but no shame.” The blonde grabbed her chin while his other hand slapped her face mockingly. “Today we’re gonna teach you some manners!”
Fists and boots rained down on her like hail. Mara curled up on the ground, instinctively protecting her head. A sharp “crack” came from her ribs, and the pain made her vision go black, but she bit her lip hard to keep from
crying out.
“Alright, don’t kill her.” One of the thugs finally stopped them. “Miss Elena said just teach her a lesson.”
The footsteps gradually faded away. Mara collapsed on the cold floor, every part of her body screaming in agony.
Elena’s triumphant laughter echoed from the end of the hallway: “Let’s see if she dares act cocky now.”
Mara struggled to roll over, staring up at the harsh ceiling lights. A drop of blood slid down from her temple, but she suddenly smiled.
Knox, is this what you wanted? You love me, but you want to watch me suffer, watch me fall apart, watch me wish I
was dead?
Fine. You win. But this is the last time.
