Freddy was stunned to see his mother’s fractured leg could already bear weight. He instinctively turned to look at Sylvia, who had just followed them into the room.
‘It’s all thanks to Sylvia,‘ he marveled to himself. ‘Who would’ve thought she was such an amazing doctor!
‘Mrs. Colon, you’ll still need to keep your leg in a cast for a while. That way, your broken leg will heal faster, Sylvia explained gently.
Sylvia retrieved the herbal medicine she had prepared from the inner room. “By the time you finish this course of herbs, your leg should be almost fully healed.”
“Sure,” Casey replied excitedly. Then, turning to Sylvia with a warm smile, she said, “If you don’t mind my simple home–cooked meal, why not stay for dinner tonight?”
Freddy quickly interjected, “Mom, maybe we shouldn’t ask her to stay for dinner.”
Anyone could tell from the way Sylvia dressed that sh
was well–off. Someone like her would never want to eat their humble meal.
“Of course, Mrs. Colon.” Sylvia checked the time and nodded.
It was already getting late, and even if she rushed back to Silverton now, she wouldn’t be able to cook dinner for Ruby.
Besides, her assistant Jolie had already picked Ruby up from school and taken her home by this hour.
With that in mind, Sylvia pulled out her phone and called, “Byron, could you pick up Ruby and have her eat dinner with Zack at your place tonight?”
Byron was elated when he heard this. Every previous attempt to bring his daughter home had been met with Sylvia’s resistance, so this time, without a second thought, he got in his car and set off to pick up Ruby.
Freddy stared at Sylvia, a mix of emotions flashing through his eyes.
He had never thought she’d be so down–to–earth. He watched as she quietly helped his mother set the freshly cooked dishes on the table.
“Mom, I need to step out for a bit. You and Ms. Sullivan go ahead and eat without me,” Freddy called out as he dashed out of the house.
“Let’s eat first and not wait for him,” Casey said. The food she made was simple home–style cooking, not even a scrap of meat, but it was surprisingly
delicious.
Sylvia and Casey sat down together at the table and began their meal.
Cradling her plate in her hands, Sylvia said to Casey, “Mrs. Colon, I’ve already talked to Freddy about moving to the city, but he’s not too keen on it.”
Casey sighed, “He’s heartbroken by his father. He refuses to go back to the city or have anything to do with him.”
As they were talking, Freddy rushed back in. “Mom, I just went to see our neighbor. I paid her, and she’ll come by tomorrow to take care of your leg. I’m planning to go back to the city with Ms. Sullivan tomorrow.”
Casey’s face lit up with joy. She nodded repeatedly and said, “Great. Don’t worry about me. I’ll be just fine at home.”
Freddy was genuinely moved by Sylvia and agreed to go to the city with her. However, he made it clear that this didn’t mean he was willing to look for his father. He had only promised to accompany Sylvia, nothing more.
Sylvia smiled warmly. After dinner, she handed Freddy an address. “Come find me at this address tomorrow. I’ll set you up with a job. As for your future plans, we can figure that out later.”
Freddy nodded gratefully and took the address.

Chapter 159
Sylvia drove away from the village under the moonlight.
With Ruby already safe at Byron’s place, she took
time on the road, maintaining a steady pace.
In the dining room of the Blair residence, Liana was smiling from ear to ear as she placed a piece of fish on Ruby’s plate.
“Ruby, I had our maid make this fish especially for you. Go
ead and try it,” she cooed.
Ever since she learned Ruby was a Blair by blood, Liana had been overjoyed. With how adorable Ruby was, Liana wished she could keep her at the Blair residence forever and never let her go back to Sylvia.
“I won’t eat it.” Ruby turned her head away and lifted
chin defiantly.
“Ruby, she’s your grandma. Mind your manners.” Byron frow
with disapproval.
“She’s not my grandma,” Ruby huffed, puffing out her cheeks. “She keeps saying mean things about Mommy, so she’s not my grandma to me.”
Liana’s face darkened. She slammed her fork down on the table and snapped, “Byron, look at how Sylvia’s raising this child. She won’t even acknowledge me as her grandma.”
Byron sighed inwardly, ‘If I hadn’t secretly done a DNA test, Sylvia wouldn’t even let Ruby call me Dad, much less recognize you as her grandmother
“Daddy, can I have a rib?” Ruby blinked her big eyes up at Byron.
Byron had been about to scold her, but seeing that adorable face, he couldn’t resist. He picked up his fork and put a rib in her plate.
“Zack, could you get me a napkin to wipe my mouth?” Ruby asked with a grin, her face smeared with oil as she looked at Zack, who was sitting beside her on a little chair.
“Of course, Ruby,” Zack replied, grabbing a napkin and gently wiping the oil from the corners of her mouth.
Ruby tilted her head back and giggled, her smile as bright as the sun.
Liana was fuming at the dinner table, her face flushed crimson with
anger.
‘This little girl is even more infuriating than her mother,’ she thought bitterly. Ruby accepted food from everyone else, but stubbornly refused anything Liana offered.
After dinner, Ruby went upstairs to play with Zack.
Liana frowned at Byron, her voice sharp with annoyance. “Byron, you need to teach Ruby some manners. How can she refuse to call me Grandma?”
Byron frowned and said, “How am I supposed to handle her? Spank her or something?”
Liana exclaimed in alarm, “No way. What if she gets hurt? Think of something else.”
After thinking it over, Liana left the dining room and headed upstairs, planning to have a little chat with Ruby. ‘Once I reason with her properly, Ruby will have to accept me as her grandmother,’ she thought confidently.
Just then, Byron’s phone rang. It was Sylvia calling./
After he hung up, Byron’s expression hardened. Frowning at Liana, who was about to head upstairs, he said, “Mom, don’t bother looking for Ruby. Sylvia’s already here to take her home.”
Liana was fuming. She stomped her foot hard and snapped at Byron, “How dare Sylvia just show up and expect to take Ruby whenever she pleases? Don’t let her take Ruby. Just tell her Ruby’s already asleep.”
Byron sighed helplessly, thinking of Sylvia’s current temper. “Mom, if you pull something like this, you can forget about Ruby ever coming here again.
Chapter 159
Liana clenched her teeth as realization struck. Ever since Sylvia divorced Byron, they could do nothing about her, Instead, they now found the constantly at her mercy.
“Daddy, Mommy just called me. She’s at the door. I’m going home with Mommy.” Ruby came bouncing down the stairs excitedly.
Before Liana and Byron could react, Zack came toddling down the stairs after her and called out, “Ruby, slow down. I’ll go with you to see Mommy:
Liana’s expression turned stormy in an instant. Byron’s face darkened as well.
