Complex Wolf Pack Relationships
(Melissa’s POV)

The sting of Olivia Blackwood’s slap still burned on thy cheek as 1essed my hand against it, fighting back tears. I’d expected some resistance, but nothing like this public humiliation.
All around us, members of the Blackwood Pack watched with barely concealed interest. Their judgmental stares reminded me of my place in their hierarchy – an omega from a poor family who dared to reach above her station.
“You ungrateful little bitch,” Olivia hissed, her voice low enough that only those closest could hear. “After everything I’ve done for you.”
I swallowed hard, remembering our complicated history. Olivia had once been my ally, or so I’d foolishly believed.
It started two years ago when she approached me after noticing how I looked at her son. “You’d be much better for Ethan than that Chase girl,” she’d said, her voice dripping with disdain for Amber. “She challenges him too much. An Alpha needs someone supportive, not combative.”
Those words had given me hope, permission to pursue what I’d always wanted.
“Keep me informed about their relationship,” Olivia had instructed. “Tell me when they argue, when she’s away. I’ll make sure Ethan knows you’re available.”
And I did exactly that. I became her perfect little spy, noting every time Amber left town for a photography assignment, every argument she had with Ethan. Olivia would then encourage Ethan to work late, to meet clients at restaurants where I would ” coincidentally” appear.
It worked beautifully. Amber’s frequent absences and their constant fighting created the perfect openings for me to comfort Ethan, to show him what a supportive, gentle mate could be like.
Amber, the stupid woman, never wondered why every time the two of them went on a date, I happened to show up or interrupt them with unexpected work and call Ethan away.
Because Ethan’s mother and her dear adopted sister are both staunch allies of mine, and they want to break them both up more desperately than I do.
Ethan gradually sank under my gentle onslaught. As he collapses once more onto my soft body, he kisses me in the ear, “If my uncle hadn’t forced me to marry Amber, I’d really like to tag you right now.”
In this moment, I knew I had succeeded.
But after Ethan broke his engagement with Amber, Olivia changed. Suddenly, I wasn’t good enough either.
“You’ve served your purpose,” she told me three weeks ago, shoving an envelope into her desk.” Take this money and disappear. You know, Ethan needs to marry an alpha’s daughter, not an omega.”
This old woman, actually want to cross the river and break the bridge, it’s just a dream, I sneered in my heart. I gave so much, my body, betrayed Amber who helped me, and she actually just wants to get rid of me with money?
I’d pretended to accept her offer, buying time until Dominic’s promised intervention. I never expected her to confront me so publicly, so violently.
“You told me you would leave him,” Olivia snarled now, her hand raised for another slap. “You lying little-”
“Mother, stop!” Ethan moved between us, his arm wrapping protectively around my shoulders. “That’s enough!”
His protection gave me a leg up, even though the humiliation of being beaten in public set me on fire. I won, despite Olivia’s scheming, despite my humble beginnings.
I hid in Ethan’s arms and gave Olivia a provocative look at an angle no one else could see.

She did fall for it, and her eyes were about to spit fire.
“You fool,” Olivia spat at Ethan. “She’s nothing but an opportunistic
“I said ENOUGH!” Ethan’s voice rose to a roar, his body trembling with anger.

“Don’t, don’t do this Ethan, don’t fight with mom over me.” I gently stroked Ethan’s chest and looked at him from my best angle with tears in my eyes.
My look made Olivia even angrier, “You shameless omega, trying to pick a fight with us mother and son?” She snarled and stepped forward to try and hit me again, completely forgetting that I was in his son’s arms.
“I said, that’s enough, mom,” Olivia said as this slap didn’t land on my face and Ethan tightened his grip on her wrist, his eyes bursting with anger.
The room fell silent, everyone frozen in the tension between mother and son. I clung to Ethan’s arm, playing the role of the frightened, vulnerable omega perfectly.
Then a commanding presence filled the doorway, and every wolf in the room instinctively lowered their eyes.
(Lucas’s POV)
I’d been recording everything on my phone when William Blackwood, the Alpha King himself, entered the room. His mere presence caused the air to thicken, making it difficult to breathe.
Even at his advanced age, William commanded absolute respect. His silver hair and lined face couldn’t hide the power that radiated from him. He walked with a slight limp, leaning on an ornate cane, but no one would dare mistake this for weakness.
“What,” he said, each word deliberate and cold, “is happening in my house?”
No one dared answer. Olivia, who had been so fierce moments before, now stood with her head bowed. Ethan’s arm dropped from around Melissa as he too lowered his gaze in submission.
Melissa looked terrified, her earlier defiance replaced by genuine fear. Her cheek bore an angry red mark from Olivia’s slap, and I noticed scratch marks on her other cheek – probably from her earlier confrontation with Amber at the Moonlight Club.
I quickly stopped recording and slipped my phone into my pocket. The Alpha King’s eyes swept across the room, lingering briefly on me before moving on.
“Olivia,” he said, his voice barely above a whisper yet somehow filling the entire room. “Explain yourself.”
Olivia’s hands trembled slightly. “My King, I was merely expressing my… disappointment in my son’s choice of companion.”
William’s eyebrow raised slightly. “By assaulting a guest in my home?”
“She is no guest,” Olivia began, but fell silent as William raised his hand.
The tension in the room grew even heavier as Dominic entered, followed by Ethan’s father, Benjamín. My uncle Dominic’s presence was almost as commanding as the Alpha King’s, his cold blue eyes taking in the scene with calculating precision.
“What’s the commotion about?” Dominic asked, though his tone suggested he already knew.
I couldn’t help myself. This was my chance to get on Dominic’s good side, to prove my loyalty before receiving my gift.
“Aunt Olivia slapped Melissa,” I said eagerly, stepping forward. “She’s upset because Ethan chose Melissa over Amber Chase after cheating on Amber during their engagement.”
Dominic’s gaze shifted to me, his expression unreadable. “Is that so?”
Emboldened by his attention, I continued, “Amber had every right to be angry at the Moonlight Club. Ethan treated her terribly, and Melissa was flaunting their relationship right in front of her.‘
“Lucas,” Benjamin warned, but I ignored him.

“Amber was just defending herself,” I insisted. “Anyone would have reacted the same way.”
Olivia’s face flushed with anger. “That Chase girl has always been rouble. If she hadn’t interfered-

“Interfered with what, Olivia?” Dominic cut in, his voice dangerously soft.
The room went completely silent. My finger hovered over my phone in my pocket, itching to record again.
“If she hadn’t saved Dominic at the Ravenclaw Bridge crash site,” Dominic continued, “then Benjamin might have become Alpha instead? Is that what you’re suggesting?”
Olivia paled visibly. “I didnt mean-
“Even without me,” Dominic said coldly, “Benjamin is a beta wolf. He would never have been first in line for leadership.”
Benjamin looked down, the truth of his subordinate status laid bare for all to see. Ethan shifted uncomfortably, his arm tightening around Melissa again.
Dominic’s gaze swept the room, commanding and cold. “Have you forgotten,” he asked, blue eyes piercing through Olivia,” that I once had a big brother?”
I felt a chill run down my spine, my earlier excitement about the sports car completely forgotten. Everyone in the room knew the story – William Blackwood had six sons once. His oldest, my father’s elder brother, was now gone, forced to die by Dominic. The silence that followed was absolute, broken only by the sound of William Blackwood’s cane tapping against the floor as he moved to take a seat.
I shrank back, suddenly regretting my eagerness to involve myself in this dangerous family drama.
