“She had six boyfriends in college, yet she still manages to pull off that calm, graceful, refined act. Not just any woman could do that,” Kendrick muttered, unimpressed.
That really was something. Freya clutched her chest. “I feel personally attacked.”
“Huh?” Kendrick and Baylon looked at her, puzzled.
“I’ve been single for over twenty years, and she’s had six boyfriends? I’ve only had one–and we fell in love after we got married,” Freya whispered, leaning close to Louis.
Louis flicked her forehead. “That one of yours is worth ten of hers.”
Freya beamed. “Big boss indeed–doesn’t even blush when bragging about himself.”

Baylon and Kendrick: “…”
They’d been hit by a wave of affection without warning.
“Mr. Graham, Mr. Kendrick, Mr. Baylon–wow, I didn’t expect to see you here so early!” A chubby young man trotted over, his bright grin immediately putting people at ease.
Baylon raised an eyebrow. “Well, if it isn’t Mr. Raymond. This is rare–running into you at a place like this.”

“Oh please, don’t tease me. A distinguished man like Mr. Baylon only ever appears at top–tier venues. I had to pull some serious strings just to get an invitation tonight,” Mr. T with a chuckle, wiping sweat from his forehead.
Freya thought he was pretty amusing. She tugged lightly at Louis’s sleeve, and Louis understood immediately. He leaned in and quietly explained.
“That’s the heir of a family that used to do real estate. They’re not what they used to be, but he’s still got some connections. He probably got that invite tonight hoping to make some deals.”
So the real estate business was down, but there were still other ways to make money. Freya didn’t ask further,
“Mr. Raymond, your way with words is only getting better,” Baylon said with a smile, though his question that followed wasn’t quite so light.
“We heard you recently got in with a very powerful backer–someone so wealthy that you easily won that last bid. All of us are dying to know who this mystery person is. How come no one’s ever heard of them?”

Baylon was genuinely curious. Even Waylon hadn’t been able to dig up anything, and the other bidders had been completely blindsided. Mr. Raymond had made a fortune overnight
“Oh, that’s an old family friend from way back. The new head of the Ruby family. He’s been abroad all this time and only just returned. That’s why you haven’t heard of him. He might stop by tonight if he has time. If so, you’ll get the chance to meet him,” Mr. Raymond explained without hesitation.
“Well, if the chance comes, we’ll definitely have to meet him,” Baylon replied smoothly.
The group continued chatting and laughing. More people joined in soon after, and as always, the conversation drifted toward business. Occasionally someone would ask about Freya, but Louis brushed it off casually each time. Freya just listened quietly to the ongoing discussion.
After a while, Louis handed the conversation off to Baylon and Kendrick, then brought Freya to the lounge area. Once she was seated, he passed her bag to her and gently reminded her,
“It’ll probably be a while before dinner starts. Just rest for now. If you get bored, play on your phone.”
“Mm, don’t worry. I’ve been to a few of these by now. I know the drill,” Freya replied, reassuring him.
This was a Ruby family banquet–no one with any sense would dare cause trouble here. Louis left, completely at ease.
Meanwhile, Sophia had entered alone. Though she wore a smile, she clearly didn’t know where to go. The banquets she usually attended were nothing like this. Even though she was technically the female lead, everything she’d been through had taught her one thing: this world ran on its own rules. Just because she was the heroine didn’t mean the world would revolve around her.
As a mid–tier actress, getting into this event was already a stroke of luck. She wasn’t about to make any missteps–offending the wrong person here wouldn’t just be embarrassing; it could be career–ending.
She looked around. One side of the room had more men–including Louis and the others- deep in conversation. The other side was mostly women, chatting in smaller groups. Sophia spotted Freya, but her goal tonight wasn’t Louis, so she decided not to approach Freya either.
After a moment’s hesitation, she made her way toward the side with more men. There were women there too. She picked up a glass of wine and sat down quietly, observing the scene.
It wasn’t long before two men approached her. One had a greasy, slick look. The other appeared wild and carefree on the surface, but his eyes never left Sophia—making her extremely uncomfortable.
