Chapter 416
“Really?” Anathea’s eyes lit up. Had he really agreed?
“But… not now,” Gregory added.
“Why?” Anathea asked, not understanding it.

“Because it’s dangerous out there right now,” he responded seriously. “Many people are watching us. If you go out, you could be in danger.”
In just two days, he would be officially taking over as the head of the Sinclair family. The other members were wolves in sheep’s clothing. They wouldn’t let him assume power so easily. They were already watching everything around him like hawks.
When Anathea escaped from Xander’s school the other day, two black cars followed her. Those were sent by his enemies. Thankfully, he had stepped in just in time, or Anathea might have been hurt.
Failing once didn’t mean they would stop there.
He had already lost Victor. He couldn’t lose Anathea.
That was why, at this critical moment, he couldn’t risk anything happening to her. Keeping her inside this villa was the best way to ensure her safety.
Still, he didn’t want to worry her, so he didn’t tell her everything. He didn’t want her to carry the burden or let it affect her mood or her health.
He would take on the danger outside. All she needed to do was live peacefully, as always, within the safe world he built for her.
He wild protect her and not let her worry.
When Anathea saw how serious he was, she couldn’t bring herself to say what she wanted to say, Disappointment filled her eyes
From her perspective, she had no idea what the danger was.
She just wanted to go outside for a breath of fresh air. She’d been cooped up here for so long that she grew bored. She missed her
friends and her family, especially her dad.
Although Gregory had already returned her phone, she still couldn’t call Adam. Even when she tried calling the hospital, they always said the same thing.
“Mr. Jacobson is doing well under our care. You don’t need to worry, Mrs. Sinclair.”
Whenever she tried to ask more about Adam’s condition or requested to speak with him, they would either give vague replies or say they were busy and abruptly hang up.
Anathea felt something she couldn’t quite name deep inside. It was a lingering anxiety, a growing sense of unease.
So, she hoped Gregory would send someone to take her to visit Adam at the hospital. Only seeing Adam alive and hearing his voice could put her at ease.
“I, um…”
Just as Anathea began to speak, Gregory’s phone rang. It was Martin.
“Give me a second,” he said to her before answering the call.
“What is it?”
Anathea couldn’t hear what Martin said, but Gregory slowly furrowed his brows, his expression darkening. “Alright. I’ll be there right away.”
With that, he stood up, his expression darkening. He was getting ready to leave

But before he did, he paused and turned back to her. “What were you about to say?”

Looking at how rushed he seemed, Anathea hesitated, then said instead, “It’s nothing. You can go.” Gregory nodded. But before walking out the door, he approached her and gently reminded her, “Don’t take off that bracelet.” Preoccupied with her own thoughts, Anathea barely registered what he said. She simply nodded absentmindedly.
Gregory leaned down and pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead. “I might be back late tonight. Don’t wait up,” he said softly. “Okay.” Anathea lowered her gaze, not looking at him again.
Gregory, reluctant to leave, dropped another kiss on the bridge of her nose before slipping on his coat and striding out the door. It wasn’t until the sound of the engine revving up in the courtyard reached her ears that Anathea looked toward the door.
The car was already long gone.
She pulled her gaze back and glanced at the menu Gregory had written out for her. The sight of it helped ease the heaviness in her chest just a little.
“Forget it. He’s busy now. I’ll talk about visiting Dad when he comes back,” Anathea thought.
But by the following afternoon, Gregory still hadn’t returned.
