Chapter 437
A flicker of surprise flashed in Natalie’s eyes. Before she could read, a cloth was pressed over her mouth and nose, just like she had once done to Anathea.
Natalie struggled for a moment. But because of the anesthesia, her eyelids soon grew heavy. In seconds, she plunged into a deep, endless darkness.
It was 6:30 pm–normally still bright in the summer–but the sky that day was unusually overcast. It looked more like 8:00 pm, with everything draped in a dim, shadowy dusk.
When Gregory opened his eyes, the ceiling of the ward came into view.
“You’re finally awake.” Louie let out a long breath of relief. “If youd stayed out any longer, I was going to call a doctor in for a consultation.”
Gregory propped up his exhausted body and sat up. “Where is she?
Who else could he be asking about but Anathea? The fact that his first concern upon waking was her, not himself, was actually quite dangerous.
Louie frowned. “Anathea has Hannah with her. She fell asleep soon after Hannah went in.”
With a friend by her side, Anathea’s emotions had settled considerably.
“Did she eat anything?” Gregory asked, trying to get up. “I’ll cook for her so she has something to eat when she wakes up.” “Gregory!” Louie finally lost it. He grabbed Gregory’s shoulder and snapped, “Are you trying to get yourself killed?”
Gregory paused and lowered his gaze. “Don’t worry. I know my own limits.”
“The hell you do! You’re just lying to yourself!” Louie snapped at him angrily and threw out a threat. “If you don’t want me to go tell Adrian and the others, then sit your ass down and start taking care of your body! Stop running on fumes every damn day!”
As he scolded, he reached down and pulled up Gregory’s pant leg. Sure enough, there was a long wound running along his calf.
He had gotten that while dealing with Harvey’s accomplices.
Even though he had appeared calm and in control in front of Harvey, in truth, he’d fought through the chaos himself.
His dark clothing had hidden just how serious his injuries were.
But Louie was a doctor. He saw it right away.
Still, Gregory had refused to leave. He insisted on staying until Anathea came out of surgery and woke up.
“If you keep pushing yourself like this, I swear I won’t help you next time!” Louie cursed while tending to Gregory’s wound.
Gregory tugged at his pale lips, letting Louie rant on.
Just then, Martin knocked and stepped into the ward. “Mr. Sinclair
“Did you catch her?” Gregory asked coldly as he looked over.
Martin nodded. “Just as you suspected, Ms. Eleanor was trying to send her out of the country.”
Gregory said nothing. His eyes gradually turned icy. “Lock her up. Also, there’s something else I need you to do.”
“Yes, sir.” Martin nodded, then pulled a recording pen from his pocket. “This was found in Mrs. Sinclair’s hand during surgery. She wouldn’t let go of it.”
Gregory paused. He reached out and took the recorder.
