Chapter 6
I hope you don’t mind me sharing this,” she said to the influencer with a trembling voice.
“Because of my poor academic performance, I actually dropped out of school early work. My brother and I are very close. For his birthday during his junior year, I saved $4,000 to buy him a new phone and computer.”
Her eyes glistened with unshed tears as she continued, “But my lovesick brother ended up giving all that money to Kyra. Or rather, he saved it all wan Kyra. That was money I had scrimped and saved for half a year.”
While pulling out her phone and opening Rylan’s social media page, she explained, “It was during this time, in June. My brother didn’t get a new computer or phone–he was still using his cracked phone. During summer break, instead of resting, he chose to work at a restaurant.”
She scrolled through the posts on Rylan’s Facebook page as she spoke.
“These are his posts–all showing his daily life at the restaurant. Now look at Kyra’s page from the same period. She got the newest iPhone, and within a month, she visited four different states by herself.”
Her voice cracked with emotion, “She really enjoyed spending my money, didn’t she? I told my brother many times to end things with her. I feshe wasn’t right for him, and now the facts prove it–she’s not just an unsuitable partner, she’s not even a decent human being.”
“I still can’t imagine how she could spend someone else’s money so shamelessly. Doesn’t she feel any guilt at all?!”
The stark contrast between the two social media feeds shocked everyone, as no one had imagined that Rylan’s sister had sacrificed so much for him.
The girl was thin, with slightly yellowed hair tips, which made her appear even more pitiful
in
this moment.
“My heart breaks for this poor girl. How did her brother end up with someone like that…” someone murmured sympathetically.
Another voice added, “Her brother just couldn’t see clearly. His sister worked so hard for that money, and it all went to this gold–digger to waste.” “Kyra said they were saving together. How could Rylan know she would spend it all?”
Meanwhile, the comments in the influencer’s livestream were even more vicious. I didn’t need to look to know what kind of vulgar language was being
used.
Turning to Rylan, I asked pointedly, “Everyone’s questioning whether that account statement is real or fake. What about you? Do you really not understand where those large withdrawals came from?”
Rylan’s eyes flickered for a moment before quickly meeting mine again, maintaining his composure as he replied steadily, “Isn’t everything recorded in the app? What more do you want me to say? Wasn’t most of the money spent by you? Clothes, cakes, handbags–it’s all clearly recorded there. What else are you trying to prove?”
I let out a bitter laugh, realizing I was such a fool–it took me four years to see this man for who he really was.
“Yes, the records show I spent the money, but don’t you know exactly why I spent it? You kept talking about saving for our future fund, and I actually believed you, which is why I fell into your trap.”
“You took advantage of the fact that all the money was in our joint account to claim I spent it all on myself. How many holidays did you conveniently forget? Birthdays, Valentine’s Day, Christmas… Whenever we went out, I always paid, because you claimed our savings were untouchable–meant for our future security.”
“But whenever there was a holiday sale, you’d immediately start acting pitiful, emotionally manipulating me into buying you this and that–all those expensive electronics.”
With that, I pulled out a stack of receipts from my backpack and threw them onto the hospital bed, declaring, “You all wondered where those large monthly withdrawals came from? Well, here they are.”
