Chapter 9
The mention of Nicole made them all shudder.
1, however, chuckled lightly.
“She wasn’t after you husbands. She came for Gavin.”
My words left the neighbors staring at me in shock.
I chuckled again.
“Good thing we’re getting a divorce now.”
After bidding farewell to the neighbors, I went upstairs and opened the door to the bedroom.
From the highest shelf, I retrieved the pink box.
The box had been wiped clean, though a fine layer of dust had settled over it in the past few days.
I opened it to reveal photos of me and Gavin, along with letters we’d written to each other.
During our passionate days, we loved writing letters.
The words on those pages carried all our love back then.
But now, the love was gone. What was the point of keeping the letters?
I carried the pink box downstairs.
At the building’s incinerator, I burned the letters one by one.
As the last letter turned to ash, I snapped a photo and sent it to Gavin.
“Gavin, goodbye forever.”
“Happy divorce!”
After sending the message, I got into Luciana’s car, and we drove away.
Gavin’s calls came one after another, but I ignored them all.
Every time Gavin called, I hung up.‘
When he called again, I blocked his number.
But the next second, an unfamiliar number came through.
“Hannah, don’t hang up!”
“Just hear me out!”
I let out a soft laugh and hung up immediately.
Why should I give him the time to speak?
Who did Gavin think he was?
I leaned against the car window, gazing at the familiar streets and buildings.
Suddenly, I felt tired of it all.
“Luciana, didn’t our company want to expand overseas?”
I think I’d like to give it a shot.”
Luciana had always been a woman of action.
The morning after 1 mentioned my interest in going abroad, she had everything arranged.
“Hannah, just go and don’t worry!”
“I’ll handle the domestic side of things while you take charge overse
“As for Gavin, let him and his mistress rot in hell!”
The moment Luciana brought up Gavin, I spotted him in the distance.
He looked pale, unshaven, and disheveled.
“Hannah, wait!”
He ran toward me, but a passerby knocked him to the ground hard.
“What’s your problem? Watch where you’re going!”
Gavin had never looked so pathetic.
Together, we’ll make something big happen!”
He scrambled to get back on his feet, but I stepped into the boarding gate before he could reach me.
“Sir, you can’t enter!”
“Security! Security!”
Gavin tried to force his way in but was quickly restrained by several security guards, pinned to the ground.
I walked away without looking back.
The ten–hour flight passed quickly. I managed to sleep peacefully in first class.
As I disembarked, a wave of heat and sea breeze greeted me, brushing against every inch of my body.
I powered on my phone for the first time since leaving.
Messages from Luciana flooded in, along with several videos.
“I can’t stop laughing–someone uploaded a video of Gavin at the airport to TikTok.”
“So many people are mocking him. Some even recognized him as the cardiologist from City General Hospital.”
“The hospital has already suspended him.”
After that message, Luciana followed up with a laughing emoji, then continued with a rapid stream of updates.
“Hannah, guess what happened to Nicole?”
“I went to the hospital to check. Turns out her suicide attempt was fake, but last night she ran into a medical dispute.”
“She was stabbed to death on the spot!”
“Serves her right!”
Luciana’s messages kept coming, one after another.
The final one read:
Chapter 9
“Hannah, I hope you’ll love Barcelona.”
“There’s wind, there’s the sea, there’s the sun. It’s a place where all wounds can be healed.”
As the sun set over Barcelona, my tears slid onto my phone screen, only to be dried by the sea breeze.
She was right.
This was a new beginning.
[The End.]
