I opened my eyes and looked at him.
He didn’t look well.
Though he wore the most expensive suit, even his cufflinks huge diamonds.
His face had become gaunt and sickly, with bloodshot.
I knew it.
These days, Lucas had been trying hard to be the perfect fiancé in Olivia’s eyes.
But the more perfect he tried to be, the more repressed he felt.
The more repressed he felt, the more he missed me.

I knew he would come. I just didn’t expect it to be such perfect timing, for him to see me with tears
in my eyes.
Lucas had never seen me cry before.
As a fellow lunatic, he understood all too well how precious the tears of a cold–blooded psychopath
were.
As if he had obtained some priceless treasure, Lucas pulled me tightly into his arms.
He was so satisfied –
So I had been suffering from our separation too.
So I had been missing him just as he missed me.
Lucas took me back to his house..
Not the home he shared with Olivia, but another property he owned in the south of the city.
“Wait for me here,” he said. “I’ll come back to see you as soon as I can.”
I almost laughed out loud.
Do you see, Ethan?
This greedy lunatic actually wants to have it both ways.
The normal him wants Olivia as his wife.
The dark him wants me as his mistress.
For a moment, I was very tempted to pick up the blue and white porcelain vase on the table and
smash it over his head.
But that would be too easy on him.
Gently caressing the patterns on the vase, I turned back to look at Lucas and said:
“Okay, I’ll wait for you.”

Those words felt so familiar.
As if I had rehearsed them in my heart thousands of times, ready to say them at any moment.
But I had never said those words before.
My gaze fell on the roses in the vase, and my mind exploded with realization.
So that’s how it was.
So these were the words I had wanted to say to Ethan, but never did.
“Rachel, trust me. I’ll come for you with a ring.”
“Okay, I’ll wait for you.”
