It was 3:00 pm before she finally had the chance to sit down and take a break. Her arm was still sore. Grabbing her phone, she was just about to get her arm checked at the hospital when she received a message.
“Ms. Jamison, your sculpture has been brought over from Hover Manor. I’m at Hover Group right now. Are you free to come over?”
It was from Samuel.
“Yes, I am. I’ll be right over.”
Once Yvonne responded to the message, she set off for Hover Group.
“Hello, Ms. Jamison,” the receptionist greeted with a courteous smile. “Mr. Hover is waiting for you in his office. This way, please.”
“Thank you,” Yvonne responded with a smile before following the receptionist into the building.
They took the elevator up to the president’s office on the 68th floor. It was Yvonne’s first time here, so she politely took a look around the place.
Samuel’s office was furnished in a minimalistic style with tones of black and white. It created a rather stiff, suffocating atmosphere.
“Do have a seat, Ms. Jamison,” Samuel said as he looked up at her from behind his desk.
With his suit jacket hung up behind him, he sat there in a blue shirt with a crisp necktie that made him seem a little unapproachable. He seemed to always carry himself with a sophisticated air.
“Good afternoon, Mr. Hover,” Yvonne greeted with a smile.
“Bring us two cups of coffee, and prepare some snacks too,” Samuel instructed his secretary, Holly Meyer.
Then, he approached the couch and gestured toward Yvonne, who followed his gaze and spotted the box on the coffee table that held her sculpture.
“I never thought I’d see it again,” Yvonne said as she carefully opened the box.
She instinctively tried to use her right hand, only to realize she couldn’t exert any strength with it.
Deftly noticing her reaction, Samuel frowned and asked, “Are you hurt, Ms. Jamison? Is it your right arm?”
“The elevator at the office broke down today, and I bumped my arm by accident.”
Yvonne was a little taken aback She didn’t expect Samuel to be this observant.
Meanwhile, he swiftly rose to his feet and dialed the internal line. “Get my doctor to come over at once.”
“Please don’t go to all that trouble, Mr. Hover. I’ll head to the hospital later.”
“I doubt you’ll be able to get a doctor to attend to you anytime soon,” Samuel said before approaching her. He asked rather tentatively, “Do you mind letting me see your injury?”
Yvonne thought about it and decided not to refuse his request. She rolled up her right sleeve, and he leaned in slightly. His fingers pressed down ever so gently on
her bruise.
“I’ll let the doctor check on you to see if you need to head to the hospital. You would’ve gone there by now if I hadn’t gotten in touch with you. You bring designs to life with your hands, so they mustn’t be injured in any way.”
Yvonne could tell that he meant what he said, so she replied, “Thank you.”
While waiting for the doctor to arrive, she studied her sculpture.
After tracing the lines of the sculpture, she closed her eyes. She felt as if she’d gone back in time to when she first learned the art form from Andrew. It was a memory of a time gone by, but it was still filled with the warmth of a father’s love.
This sculpture held a lot of sentimental value for her.
Yvonne couldn’t help but ask curiously, “What made you get this at the auction, Mr. Hover?”
She’d been a complete nobody in the industry back then, and Samuel had paid such an exorbitant price for the sculpture.
Samuel’s heart skipped ever so slightly when he met her probing gaze.
“I got 11 pieces from that auction,” he said, his eyes flashing as he stared at the extremely lifelike sculpture of a girl.
“Out of everything, this sculpture had the most life to me. I didn’t know who made it, but its value is the reason why I chose to add it to my collection. Now that you’ve ventured into jewelry design once more, Ms. Jamison, it proves that I have a good eye for investments.”
“In that case, I can’t afford to disappoint you, Mr. Hover,” Yvonne replied.
Her eyes lit up with the joy and eagerness of pursuing her dream once more.
“I’ve decided on the fee I want in exchange for lending you the sculpture,” Samuel declared. Looking Yvonne in the eye, he said, “I hope you’ll give me the second
