Wayne was certain that Jared could keep Yvonne around if he asked her to stay. Thus, he seized this chance to inform Jared, “Mr. Ford, after the exhibition, Ms. Jamison will be-”
Infuriated, Jared cut Wayne off, snapping, “I don’t want to hear about her. So what if the project has been completed successfully? Don’t come here and brag about it to me. I don’t have time for that.”
After signing the documents, he tossed them back to Wayne while adding, “Her matters aren’t any of my concern.”
“Yes, Mr. Ford,” Wayne said before clamming up.
He didn’t have to bother after all. It turned out that Jared didn’t care about Yvonne’s resignation.
It was the night before the exhibition. The projects department had one last meeting in their office on the 17th floor.
“You’ve all worked hard. Get some rest tonight. Once the exhibition comes to a close tomorrow, I won’t be returning to the company. It’s been a pleasure working with all of you,” Yvonne declared.
After the meeting, Yvonne had the rest of the team head home first.
She had an invitation to the exhibition with her name on it in hand. It wasn’t for Yvonne Jamison of the projects department but for Yvonne Jamison, the designer.
At 10:00 pm, Yvonne packed up her things and left the office after completing the last of her handover.
Jared, who was driving out of the parking lot at the same time, noticed her standing at the entrance. He stopped by the side and watched her from a distance.
“Was she still working at this hour? Is the exhibition so important to her–even more important than me?” Jared wondered as he lit up a cigarette.
For some reason, when he saw her silhouette, he got an unsettling feeling. Heart jolting, he immediately got out of the car. However, he’d only taken two steps before he stopped and let out a laugh.
“Why am I panicking? Why would Yvonne ever leave? She’s always been beside me, right where I can see her. It’s been that way all along, and it will always be that way. Even after she leaves tonight, she’ll be back at the office tomorrow. I can see her whenever I want.”
Jared felt very sure about that, for that was what Yvonne had always done. He tossed his cigarette aside and got back into the car before driving off.
When Yvonne’s cab arrived, she took one last look at the office building.
After three years, both her job and her relationship had come to an end. From now on, her new life awaited her.
it was the day of the exhibition, but Jared didn’t show up. Instead, he took Shirley with him to Hover Group.
The Hovers were the true leaders of the business world here in Jeriton City. While Samuel was back in town, he was extremely busy. Thus, it was Liam Hall, the vice president of Hover Group, who handled most of the company’s matters.
As they gathered in the conference room, Jared hoped to prove to Hover Group that he was sincere about collaborating with them, on the resort project.
It had been Shirley’s responsibility to prepare the most essential documents for this meeting, but she hadn’t even gone through all of the documents last night. And now, she couldn’t even find the one they needed.
Everyone watched as she went from panicked to agitated. In her bid to search for the right document, she ended up scattering everything on the floor.
Jared had never felt this humiliated before.
“Since your secretary didn’t prepare the necessary documents for this meeting, Mr. Ford, let’s call it a day,” Liam said before standing, his patience worn thin.
“I apologize for this,” Jared said.
He felt defeated. It seemed like everything had fallen apart at the very last minute.
Before leaving, Liam added, “This isn’t the first time our companies have discussed a partnership. This mistake never would’ve happened in the past. I realize now it’s because you’ve changed secretaries.”
Upon hearing that, Jared came to a realization too. He recalled what it had been like when he’d had Yvonne with him. Not only had she taken good care of his personal life, but she’d been a great help to him at work too, proving to be even more capable than Frederick. With her there, he’d always been able to get the job done no matter how difficult it was.
He felt her absence was the reason why things had spiraled out of control.
As Jared swiftly left the conference room, Shirley, who wasn’t done gathering the documents yet, hastily cried out after him, “Wait for me, Mr. Ford!” However, Jared didn’t even pause in his tracks. He called Frederick and instructed, “Have Yvonne transferred back to the secretarial department. I need her!”
Unfortunately, Frederick broke the bad news to him. “Ms. Jamison has resigned from the company, Mr. Ford. Yesterday was her last day.”
