Chapter 7

What a great show.

I turned around and prepared to leave, but a familiar figure appeared at the end of the

corridor.

It’s my childhood friend Lucas, who is also the son of the director of this private hospital. In my previous life, he was the one who took me in when I was most desperate. Unfortunately, before I could repay him, he was killed by Sophia.

He walked straight over to me and said, “Are you okay? I heard about your situation.”

His gentle voice made my tense back relax a little.

“It’s okay, get ready for the game, it’s all over, thank you for believing in me.”

“Your health is important.” He took something out of his white coat pocket and handed it to me. “Take one when you have low blood sugar.”

A piece of fruit candy wrapped in colorful paper lay in his clean palm.

It is exactly the same as the one he handed me in my previous life.

My throat seemed to be blocked by something, and a sour feeling rushed up.

“Thank you.” I quickly picked up the candy, and the temperature of my fingertips was so hot that I immediately clenched my palms.

Lucas nodded and was about to say something else when his phone rang.

He picked up the phone and his expression quickly became serious.

“Okay, Dad, I’ll be right there.”

After hanging up the phone, he smiled at me apologetically and said, “I’ll go over first, and you should go back and have a rest early.”

I watched his back as he hurried away until he disappeared around the corner of the

corridor.

I turned and walked towards the elevator, and with a ding, the door opened.

The person standing inside made my breath stop.

Daniel.

After not seeing him for a few days, he looked like he had been drained of energy. Black stubble had appeared on his chin, and his shirt was wrinkled beyond recognition.

When he saw me, his bloodshot eyes flashed with light, and he rushed to me and grabbed my wrist.

“Emily! I told you you’d come! You’re still worried about Sophia, right?”

My wrist was hurt by his grip, I twisted it hard to break free and took a step back.

“Just came to see a joke.”

The hope on his face froze in an instant and turned into an embarrassing pain.

“Emily, I know you’re still mad at me. But Sophia…she’s really pitiful. She was left in the hospital by those people, all alone…”

“She asked for it.” I interrupted him. “When she climbed onto that ship for money, she should have expected this to happen. You feel sorry for her, but who will feel sorry for me who was tricked by her?”

“I…” He was speechless and hung his head dejectedly, “Emily, I was wrong. I shouldn’t have distrusted you and gotten angry with you because of her. Let’s make peace, okay?”

He reached out and tried to pull me again.

I dodged sideways and taunted, “What? Failed to take over? You came back to me because you couldn’t make any money?”

Sophia has seen the upper class, so how could she possibly be interested in someone like

Daniel?

He still wants to take advantage of the ready-made things. He is such a despicable person. I can only blame myself for being blind in the first place.

“Daniel, it’s too late. Some things, once they happen, they can’t be undone.”

“Why!” he screamed excitedly, “Just because I helped Sophia a few times, you are going to sentence me to death? Emily, how can you be so cruel!”

I looked at him pretending to be stupid and found him so pathetic and ridiculous.

“Am I cruel?” I asked him back, “Have you ever thought about what would happen to me if I

were the one lying on the hospital bed today, being pointed at by thousands of people, pregnant with an Illegitimate Child of someone unknown?”

“Why didn’t you feel cruel when you slandered me in front of everyone for Sophia?”

Daniel’s body shook violently, his lips moved, but he couldn’t utter a word.
