Before I could finish, the smile vanished from Valentina’s face, replaced by a look of malice.
“I’m not finished yet, you don’t get to interrupt!”
“I can give you what I owe, but you touched my man, so you’re leaving an arm behind today as an apology to Victor!”

Immediately, someone with a knife approached me. I looked at Valentina’s resolute expression, my heart aching to the extreme.
“Are you trying to make an example of me, just like I used to do for you, to boost your new man’s reputation?”

“Valentina, I wasted so much energy planning for you in prison. Today, if any of your people dare to lay a hand on me, you’re all
dead!”
Victor roared with laughter.
“That bastard’s all talk. He still has my boot print on his face, but he dares to say I’ll die. I’ll give you a chance today, I’d like to
who could possibly pull that off in this city!”
With that, the group laughed, seemingly eager to see what other tricks I had up my sleeve.
I glanced down at my shattered watch, then looked at Valentina, nestled against Victor.
“I can give you one more chance, Valentina. Take back what you just said, and get rid of that abomination.
Valentina’s beautiful eyebrows shot up, her voice dripping with impatience.
“What right do you, a convicted felon, have to say anything to me?”
“No need to wait, just do it. I came here to back my people up!”
Someone immediately rushed forward, intending to restrain me.

Just then, police sirens blared from outside the parking garage, and flashing red and blue lights pierced through the defensive line Victor’s men had formed, heading straight for me. The two traffic cops who had been harassing me with their tactical flashlights
earlier reacted first, running to block the approaching cars.
“Stop! Boss Victor and Sister Valentina are teaching a lesson to a disobedient stray dog, don’t mess things up!”
I stood to the side, sneering.
“I’d advise you to step aside. If you block your chief’s car, losing your job will be the least of your worries!”
The two officers sneered back, raising their tactical flashlights to smash my head.
“Still talking tough when you’re about to die!”
I watched them swing, not dodging or flinching.
The cop, intimidated by my presence, slowed his hand. Before he could even touch me, the man in front of me bowed slightly. The cop flew back several feet.
He face–planted, scrambling up muttering curses. But when he saw the man bowing to me, he slumped back down with a thud.
…Chief?!”
