On Divorce Night, My Ex-Husband Begged Me to Stay
I froze the moment my boss ushered the CEO
into the conference room.
“Ms. Dubois, this is our team.
وو
The CEO, a sharply dressed man with an air
of effortless authority, was none other than
my ex-husband. Three years ago, he’d
trampled on my heart for his childhood
sweetheart, betraying our love in ways I still
couldn’t quite comprehend.
He frowned slightly, his gaze fixed on me. Our
eyes locked.
My boss, a seasoned player in the corporate
game, immediately sensed the tension
between us. His eyes darted between us, then
settled on me.
“Uh, Ms. Yates, why don’t you tidy up the
conference room and then head out?” He
frantically gestured for me to leave.
“That won’t be necessary,” Dubois said, his
voice cutting through the air. “This project
will be discussed with Ms. Yates and me, Mr.
Evans. If you want to change people, then
there is no need to discuss this project.”
A collective gasp filled the room. Everyone
was stunned.
“Mr. Dubois… Well, okay, Ms. Yates, you
have a good talk with Mr. Dubois.” My boss
practically shoved me toward him as he
ushered everyone else out.
The door clicked shut, leaving just Dubois and
me in the sterile conference room.
His eyes were slightly red-rimmed as he
choked out, “Where have you been these past
two years? Why didn’t you answer my calls?”
A flood of memories, painful and raw,
resurfaced. But I was no longer the hysterical,
heartbroken woman I once was.
“If you’ll take a seat, Mr. Dubois, I’ll walk you
through the project.” My voice was flat,
devoid of emotion.
He seemed taken aback by my indifference.
After listening to my proposal for a while, he
finally said, “I’ll sign off on this project, but
only if you’re in charge.”
I nodded slowly. “That might be difficult.”
Dubois raised an eyebrow, then summoned
my boss back into the room. He repeated his
condition, and my boss, his face beaming,
immediately agreed.
After he left, I sat heavily in my chair, lost in
thought.
For two years, I’d constantly reminded myself
not to dwell on the past. It wasn’t worth it.
But the more I tried to suppress those
memories, the clearer they became,
constantly tormenting me. I finally managed
to crawl out of that dark hole, and now, after
only two years, I was face-to-face with
Dubois again.
We were married for five years, a love story
that began in high school.
On our fifth anniversary, he’d spent a fortune
to acquire a long-lost national treasure, a
jade dragon and phoenix artifact. Then, he
donated it to the national museum in the
name of his childhood sweetheart, Seraphina
Lancaster.
During the press conference, he gazed
adoringly at Seraphina, his eyes filled with
longing. “This jade artifact is a birthday gift
for Seraphina. After discussing it, Seraphina
decided to donate it to the museum
unconditionally.”
“We hope that all the lost national treasures
can eventually return home, back to the side
of their loved ones.
“”
The video went viral. Everyone knew about
Dubois’s love for Seraphina.
Even his friends sent me messages, dripping
with sarcasm. “Hey, your husband’s in love.’
“Congrats.”
