Chapter 37
On the way home, Yvonne remained silent.
Ian, sensing her mood, glanced at her uneasily. “Yvvy… have you and Jared really broken up?”
“Yeah. Don’t help him with my matters anymore, but I won’t stop you from being friends with him.”
Yvonne’s voice was calm, but Ian’s face betrayed a mixture of confusion and hesitation. Since he was a child, Ian had always seen Yvonne and Jared together. They’d never been apart.
Once, Ian had been bullied at school and hadn’t dared to tell his family, but Jared had stepped in to help him. After that, no one dared to mess with Ian anymore. They all knew he had a powerful future brother–in–law.
Jared was capable and kind to Yvonne. Ian had already considered him a part of the family.
Hearing that Yvonne and Jared had broken up, Ian couldn’t quite accept it. What confused him was how indifferent Yvonne seemed to be about it.
“Mom made a lot of food, so eat more and talk less later,” Yvonne reminded him with a smile as they entered the house.
Ian swallowed hard, feeling the weight of Yvonne’s pressure. “Okay.”
Lily didn’t notice the odd tension between them as she was busy in the kitchen.
Yvonne returned to her bedroom, found all her account passwords in her notes, and changed them. She even deactivated all the shared accounts she and Jared once had.
After dinner, Yvonne accompanied Lily for a walk. As they passed by Simon’s house, the latter noticed them. He couldn’t help but shower Yvonne with compliments.
“Yvonne, you’re looking more beautiful than ever! You’re so considerate, unlike my son, who’s always out and about. How long are you staying this time? “It’s a coincidence. My nephew’s back too. You two didn’t meet last time. Now that we’ve run into each other, I really hope you can be friends with him.” Yvonne smiled awkwardly. It seemed like she couldn’t avoid this blind date after all.
Lily, observing Yvonne, respected her wishes.
Yvonne didn’t mention that she’d mistaken someone for her blind date last time. Out of courtesy, she agreed to at least meet this time. “Alright, let’s meet then.”
Not long after Yvonne left, Jared arrived at their door, bringing expensive gifts with him.
He knew everything about Yvonne’s life, even though he hadn’t visited Lily with her in the past three years.
When Ian opened the door, he was surprised. “Jared? Are you here to see Yvvy?”
“Ian, who’s there?”
Lily, hearing the voices, walked over and was visibly surprised to see Jared. “Jared? What brings you here at this time?”
“Mrs. Jamison, I need to talk to you about Yvvy.”
Jared walked in and sat down in the living room. His gaze carried a commanding confidence as he said, “Ian, call Yvvy down.”
Since he’d already come all the way here, he wasn’t about to leave easily.
If Yvonne insisted on a breakup, he would have her family step in to mediate. Perhaps, if Lily could talk some sense into her, she’d reconsider and stop this drama with him.
Ian hesitated, unsure how to respond.
At that moment, Lily brought over a cup of hot coffee. “Yvvy went out. She’s on a blind date.”
“A blind date?”
Jared was instantly stunned. His hand shook, spilling the coffee on his own skin and burning his hand.
The town’s cafe was quiet, with no other customers. Yvonne sat at a table with Harold, whom she’d known by name for a while.
True to the information Lily had given before, Harold didn’t stop smoking once he sat down. It was likely a work habit.
“Ms Jamison, if I’d known you were so beautiful, I wouldn’t have missed our first blind date,” Harold said, clearly interested in her.
“I heard from my uncle that you work as a secretary in Jeriton City. It must be an advantage to be so attractive in your line of work. But why would you come on a
