The thought of Yvonne having to go through a breakup and losing her job at the same time made Jared’s heart ache for her.
His mumbling startled Shirley, who was walking in with a cup of coffee. Her hands trembled, causing the coffee to spill.
Was Jared going to bring Yvonne back? What about her then?
At that moment, Jared was on the phone, calling Frederick and asking him to come over.
Shirley hurriedly retreated to the break room to make a new cup of coffee, but before she could step inside, she overheard a couple of employees gossiping inside.
“Ugh, the atmosphere around here has been so tense lately. Back when Ms. Jamison was around, we never had to worry about Mr. Ford’s work. Ms. Ember clearly can’t manage her workload, so now Mr. Manning keeps dumping all that extra work on us. I’m exhausted from all the overtime!”
“All Ms. Ember knows how to do is dress pretty and make coffee. Does she really think that’s all a secretary is for? Ms. Jamison was really great at her job!”
“I miss her so much. Mr. Ford’s love life has nothing to do with us. I really wish she would come back.”
The whole break room was filled with the whispered grievances of her overworked coworkers. Outside, Shirley bit her lip in displeasure, but there was nothing she could do.
She knew very well that Jared was upset about their failure to secure a partnership with the Hovers, but she refused to admit that any of this was her fault.
“I’d just joined the company then, and Yvonne had thrown a tantrum out of jealousy and resigned. She never properly trained me- learn how to do the job.
-in fact, she never wanted me to
“It’s all so I wouldn’t be able to help Mr. Ford properly. That way, she could come back later and take my place!” Shirley thought bitterly. The more she thought about it, the angrier she became.
“I’m the only secretary in this company now. There won’t be another Ms. Jamison, so I have to help Mr. Ford get through this. I won’t give Yvonne Jamison any chance to come back!” she thought, gritting her teeth in determination.
Meanwhile, Jared was flipping through the documents on his desk when Frederick entered.
During this period, he’d had to deal with their failure to secure the partnership with Hover Group. One mistake had led to another, and it felt like everything was a mess now. There was too much work to sort through.
“Mr. Ford, do you need me to do anything?” Frederick kept his tone professional, but in truth, he was mentally exhausted. He just didn’t dare to complain.
Seeing how tired he was, Jared told him, “I know Ms. Ember is no help, so you’re overworked, but don’t worry. This will be resolved soon. Go and prepare a new office for Ms. Jamison.”
Frederick brightened. “Ms. Jamison is coming back?”
“Soon.” Jared leaned against his chair languidly. “Yvvy’s new job probably isn’t as nice as working in the secretarial department. I won’t pressure her into getting back with me, but that doesn’t mean she can’t return to work.”
He just needed to give Yvonne a convenient reason to come back so that they could have more opportunities to see each other. That way, his efforts to win her back would be more effective, too
Yvonne might be stubborn with her words, but if she still missed him, then there was hope.
Time and familiarity were the best ways to rekindle old relationships.
“I’ll draft out Yvvy’s contract myself. After going through so much hardship, she must be regretting her resignation by now. If I give her what she wants, she’ll feel secure and come back–and then she can help take some of the workload off you,” Jared continued.
After all, their breakup was just her being stubborn. Jared figured that she must have cooled off by now.
“Alright, Mr. Ford,” Frederick answered.
He was genuinely excited about Yvonne’s return.
Jared took a look around his messy office and took a deep breath. Yvonne’s return would restore order to his company.
there would always be a position for her by her side–that was what she wanted the most, after all.
After dinner that evening, Yvonne sat in the living room with Jean, watching an antiques appraisal TV show.

Anna tidied up the space while listening to them share their insights on the antiques shown on the screen. To her, their conversation sounded incomprehensible.
