They were getting married in a week. It was
supposed to be the wedding of the century,
with everyone watching.
I ignored it.
I ordered food, and went to bed. Then my
phone rang.
It was an ex–employee of Lucas.

And Sunny? I thought she wanted Lucas.
Turns out she wanted his money!
I thanked him, and sent the proof to Lucas, all
the pictures.
We were over, but I didn’t want him to get
screwed.
He called instantly.
I thought he wanted more proof, so I
answered.
But he started yelling.
“Riley! This is so low!
“If you don’t want me to marry Sunny, say so.
Why fake this scandal?”
<
“She’s not smart enough to do this. I can’t
believe you!”
He paused, then said:
“Riley, if you don’t want me to marry Sunny,
say it. I’ll call off the wedding!”
I frowned.
I’d warned him. What he did with that was on
him.
“What are you talking about? I hope you and
Sunny are happy together!”
I hung up, blocked him, and deleted his
number.
Then I went to sleep.
Grandpa woke me up.
He looked worried.
“What’s wrong?”
He held a newspaper with Lucas on it and
said:
“Riley, isn’t this your husband?”
“The paper says he’s marrying this woman
tomorrow. Are you divorced?”
Grandpa looked sad.
To make him feel better, I lied and said I
loved Lucas.
That he didn’t care about my background,
and that he helped Grandpa get surgery.
Grandpa liked Lucas. Seeing this now, he
probably thought I’d been dumped.
Lucas really wanted to piss me off, moving
the wedding up after I’d warned him.
I looked at the paper, trying to explain.
But Grandpa hugged me.
“It’s okay, you’re young. There are plenty of
guys out there!”
I nodded.
There are plenty of fish in the sea. I never
loved him anyway.
I followed the map, and took Grandpa on a
trip.
He was happy. We saw pandas, penguins, and
stars at night.
