He froze, staring at her wrist. “You were at the restaurant too?”

Just then, Isabel walked out the door, carrying a bag. When she saw Jared, her temper flared. “Hey! Let go of Yvvy, you bastard!”

Jared had never liked Isabel in the first place. He’d just never said anything because she was Yvonne’s friend.
Taking advantage of his distraction, Yvonne quickly yanked her hand away and stepped back.
Isabel frowned with concern. “Are you okay? I should’ve made you wait for me instead of letting you come home alone. Next time, we should put up a sign forbidding scumbags from coming within ten feet of the house!”
Yvonne shook her head, signaling that she was fine.
Whatever was just about to click into place in Jared’s mind dissipated as soon as he saw what Isabel was holding.
It made sense now–Yvonne must have been heartbroken over their breakup again, so she and Isabel had gone out to and
relax.
She probably hadn’t actually been in that restaurant.
Harold probably wouldn’t dare to see her again either, and he was sure that she didn’t have any other blind dates.

Having put his doubts to rest, Jared left.

Once inside, Isabel asked curiously, “Yvvy, what kind of contract was that hastard trying to give you?”
