At that moment, even Lather was unusually tense. He wanted to see how Yvonne would confront Jared.

As if it wasn’t bad enough, Lather stood across from him, his eyes practically glowing with admiration for Yvonne. To Jared, it was nothing short of mockery.
Fury welled up in Jared’s eyes, turning them cold and threatening.
Yvonne found two professors and secured their participation in the intangible Cultural Heritage Promotional Event. With that, her tasks for the night were complete.
Since she couldn’t leave early, she sat by the backyard pool for a while.
But then Shirley came over. “Yvonne, you really are an expert. I’d never even think of th
those tricks for winning men over.
She used to pretend to be innocent, at least a little. Now, with Jared openly favoring her, she exuded confidence.
“Let me remind you Mr. Ford has no place for you in his life. Do you know why he spent seven years with you but never married you? Because he grew tired of you. He told me you weren’t good enough for him. Don’t fool yourself into thinking some push–and–pull game will make him commit.”
Yvonne gave her a pointed look, her eyes narrowing. She couldn’t care less, but Shirley had crossed a line. Who was Shirley to judge her past with Jared?
“Shirley, you’re quite the actress. A broke student who scraped her way up, only to throw it all away chasing status. No designer wardrobe can hide your insecurities and the emptiness inside you. You’re as disappointing as you are pathetic.”
Stung by the truth, Shirley flushed with humiliation. “Yvonne, you’re the one who got dumped! You’re just jealous of me!
“Don’t make up stories for me. I couldn’t care less about your drama,” Yvonne said, standing up to leave.
Just then, Shirley spotted Jared approaching. She couldn’t waste this chance.
She hinged forward, seizing Yvonne’s arm, and cried out as he reached them, “Yvonne, don’t do this to me!
With that, Shirley threw herself into the pool. “I can’t swim! Help!
She flailed desperately, even though the water was only four feet deep.
Yvonne was utterly speechless. But then, she realized the “VIP guest” had arrived. She spotted Jared approaching, his expression grim. She couldn’t be bothered to explain or detend herself. His opinion meant nothing to her now.
He halted at the pool’s edge, eyes fixed on Yvonne as she acted like he was a stranger. How dare she try to walk past him again as if he were invisible?
The darkness in his eyes deepened, slowly swallowing her figure in his gaze.
“Yvvy, you’re not leaving.” Jared muttered.
