“Mommy, I’m sleepy.” Chloe let out a big yawn.
Hannah was just about to make the bed when Dominic beat her to it. He swiftly straightened the sheets before reaching out to carry Chloe.
“I can do it,” Hannah said, moving forward too.
But Chloe reached her arms out to Dominic instead. “I want Daddy to carry me.”
“Alright, I’ll carry you.” Dominic smiled and effortlessly lifted her up, then handed the IV drip pole to Hannah. ” Hold this for a second.”
Hannah stood beside the father and daughter. Watching Chloe lean trustingly against Dominic left a bitter feeling in her chest.
She was the one who had raised Chloe all these years. But now Chloe was clinging to him like they had always been close.
She lowered her gaze, her eyes clouded with emotion.
“Daddy’s stronger. That’s why I want him to carry me. I don’t want you to be tired, Mommy,” Chloe explained. She was a thoughtful child and not one to bottle things up because Hannah had taught her that it was okay to express her feelings honestly.
Upon seeing the upset look on Hannah’s face, Chloe immediately decided to explain her reasoning.
And it worked. Hannah felt a little better. She shook her head and smiled faintly. “It’s alright. I’m not tired.”
“If you weren’t tired, you wouldn’t be swaying on your feet!” Dominic said flatly. Hannah shot him a glare and frowned. “Would it kill you to shut up for once?”
“Hannah, is this how you treat the man who saved your daughter?” Dominic asked.
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
Dominic pulled out his phone and played a surveillance video for her. It was footage of Xander and Chloe being chased.
“H–How could this happen?” Hannah’s hands curled into fists as she watched those men go after Chloe.
Holding back her fury, she turned to Chloe. “Chloe, why didn’t you come home after school? Why did you end up there?”
Chloe looked down, guilt written all over her face. She didn’t dare answer.
Dominic’s expression didn’t change. “Because her mom is always hanging around there for hot guys.”
Hannah quickly covered Chloe’s ears, and thankfully, Dominic didn’t push it further.
They both turned their focus to getting Chloe to rest. Once the little girl had closed her eyes, the two adults exchanged a loaded glance before stepping out of the room together.
As soon as the door shut, Dominic turned to Hannah. His voice was low and biting. “You’ve really been having your fun, haven’t you?”

Under his intense gaze, Hannah tensed up for a moment but quickly pulled herself together and snapped back, ” What’s it to you? You have no right to comment on my personal life.”
“I do. You’re the mother of my daughter.”
His tone left no room for argument. “Don’t you think you’re setting a bad example for her with all this?”
A bad example?
Hannah scoffed. She was a bad example? What about him?
She didn’t even bother bringing up all the things he had done before. But if she didn’t push back now, she would explode.
“By that logic, you’re her father, but weren’t you the one getting cozy with other women? And now you’re here acting like some perfect father? Don’t you think that’s a little hypocritical?”
“Hannah Cole!” Dominic barked.
“Dominic Lancaster!” Hannah shot back without hesitation “If I’m such a bad example, why didn’t it bother you when you wanted me to have a child so Shirley could raise her?”
“When did I ever say Shirley would be the one raising our child?”
“Don’t try to argue. You…”
Hannah thought back to that moment and suddenly froze. Because, truth be told, he hadn’t actually said that. Still, if he didn’t explain, that basically meant he agreed by default.
“I never planned on marrying Shirley!” Dominic said, cutting through her messy rationalizations. “So, how the hell would I ever let her raise our child?”
“You…”
Hannah’s eyes widened because Dominic looked straight at her and said, “I always wanted a child with you. And I wanted to raise that child with you. Don’t you get what I’ve been trying to say all along?”
