Chapter 270
“Well…” Marcus hesitated, then said, “Theodore, my father is quite elderly. I’m afraid he can’t come to invite you in person.”
“Oh, I won’t press you, then. See them out.” As Theodore spoke, he shot a glance at Stanley. Stanley directly called security to get Delilah and Marcus out.
“Hey, let go of me!” After breaking free from the security guards‘ grip, Delilah turned to the gloomy–looking Marcus and said, “Brother, how about we persuade Dad to come and apologize to Theodore?”
“What do you know? We’re of the same generation as Theodore. If Dad comes to apologize to him, it will put us below him,” said Marcus.
That meant Marcus could never do business equally because Theodore became his elder.
Delilah nodded in confusion and said, “But Dad really did wrong two years ago. He betrayed Theodore and the Russell Group first.”
Marcus lowered his voice. “Well, you pushed Eliana into the sea. Would you be willing to
that?”
“Of course not,” Delilah mumbled, then asked, “So what do we do now?”
Marcus, his face stern, said, “If all else fails, I’ll just find another company to join forces with.”
With that, he pressed the elevator button. Soon after, the elevator doors opened, and the siblings came face–to–face with Anthony inside.
In the next second, Anthony’s face lit up with surprise. “Marcus, Della, when did you two return to the country?”
Marcus was stunned, then greeted Anthony. “Anthony, Della and I have been back for a while. Delilah, say hello to Anthony.”
But Delilah spoke bluntly, “Anthony, I heard you’ve done well these past two years. You’re finally no longer that hated bastard.”
Marcus quickly and awkwardly snapped, “Della, language.”
“It’s alright. Della is still the same as before, speaking her mind.” Anthony said. He was called a bastard since childhood and got
used to that.
Delilah wore her likes and dislikes plainly on her face, “Don’t call me Della. It’s disgusting.”
“Della!” Marcus simply pulled her behind him, then said to Anthony, “Second Young Master Li, do you have time right now?”
Anthony had intentionally been waiting here. Upon hearing this, he nodded, “Of course. My office is downstairs. Please.”
Delilah quietly asked from behind, “Brother, what do you have to talk about with him?”
Marcus smiled but said nothing.
Inside Anthony’s office. After hearing about Marcus‘ trouble, Anthony looked sympathetic and said, “Theodore holds grudges. I’m his biological brother, and he still doesn’t accept all the things I have done for him over the years.”
After a pause, he continued to Marcus, “So I understand how you feel. I’ll definitely help persuade the board to push for cooperation between the Wren Group and the Russell Group on the Deepcove construction project ”

A glimmer of hope appeared in Marcus‘ dull eyes. “Anthony, are you being serious?”

Anthony smiled, “No matter how domineering Theodore is, the company isn’t his. As long as the Wren Group is strong, the board has no reason to shut you out.”
Marcus, finally seeing a ray of hope, couldn’t help but say excitedly, “I’ve been trying to forge a partnership between two competent companies. That’s why I keep visiting Theodore these days.”
But Delilah poured cold water on it, “Come on, brother. If Theodore disagrees, and you beg him, what if you anger him?”
Hearing this, Anthony smiled and looked at her, “After all these years, Delilah, you still have a crush on Theodore?”
Delilah turned her face away. “None of your business.”
Anthony kept smiling, “What if I invite you to visit Russell Manor this weekend, as a friend?”
Delilah immediately turned back, asking excitedly, “Are you being serious?”
“Serious.” Anthony would do anything to annoy Theodore.
Delilah instantly changed her tone, “Anthony, you’re really a good person. How come I never noticed before?”
Unlike Delilah’s excitement, Marcus, after his initial thrill, gradually calmed down. Anthony had given them two favors in one day. While Anthony won their goodwill, it also made him more cautious.
Evening, at the Russell residence. As soon as Eliana got home, she saw Jayden squatting at her bedroom door, sighing. She walked over and asked, “Jayden, what’s wrong?”
Jayden sighed. “At the end of school, Eileen informed us there’s a parent–teacher meeting tomorrow.”
“So why are you worried?” Eliana asked, “Your grades have been improving lately.”
“Improvement is useless.” Barbara, who had also just gotten home from school, walked up to the second floor and said, “Mom has never been to any of Jayden’s parent–teacher meetings.”
Eliana couldn’t help but ask, “Why?”
“Because Dad was sent to jail by Theodore, and he still hasn’t been let out,” said Barbara.
This was the first time Eliana had heard someone from the Russell family mention it. It seemed the rumors were true–Theodore really had put his own father in prison..
“But I still don’t understand why Lainey can’t attend Jayden’s parent–teacher meeting,” said Eliana.
“For simple reasons, Mom thinks all the parents at the meetings are couples, so she’d just look lonely,” said Barbara.
She continued, “But the deep reason is that if the principal asked Mom to speak, and everyone was whispering about Dad being in prison, wouldn’t that be ironic? The audience is the future of the country. What if it had a bad influence?”
Then, Barbara went on, “Actually, Mom rarely goes to big events these years, and this is why. Without Dad, she feels helpless. Unless Anthony’s there, she can… well, rely on his influence, I guess.”

Eliana pondered and asked, “So who usually goes to Jayden’s parent–teacher meetings?”
Barbara said, “Anthony’s assistant, usually.”
Eliana was surprised. “Anthony doesn’t even care about Jayden?”
Barbara shrugged. “Anthony used to have the Russell Group to run. He didn’t have time for Jayden. Besides, Jayden’s grades are so bad–Anthony would just lose face if he went to his school.”
“But now–” Eliana thought, ‘Even after being demoted to vice president, Anthony is still too busy to attend Jayden’s parent- teacher meeting?‘
Barbara read her thoughts and said, “It’s the same now. Anthony never attends social events that don’t benefit him. That’s what I’ve observed over the years.”
Jayden, upset by Barbara’s words, was nearly in tears. “Hey, why did you even come over?”
“To say hi to Eliana.” Barbara said to him, then turned to Eliana with a small smile, “Well, El dinner.”
I should go study. See you at

Eliana hadn’t expected her to be so well–behaved. Perhaps Barbara had truly accepted her as family.
The next second, Jayden, who was still squatting on the floor, tugged at Eliana’s clothes. She snapped back to attention, looked down, and heard Jayden ask pitifully, “Eliana, can you go to my parent–teacher meeting tomorrow?”
Eliana was taken aback, pointing to herself. “Me?”
