Chapter 15
Rodrick could never figure out why she was so set on living there. He loathed it, thinking it was too cramped and messy, so he had only visited there once.
Whenever he wanted her, he’d ask her to go to his place.
Little did Rodrick know that the clutter in Britney’s apartment was all his.
He was a complete workaholic. As his chief secretary, she had to be on call 24/7.
The desk was piled with all kinds of documents he might need at any time.
His schedules and work plans were all over the walls.
There were several tuxedos in the closet for his business dinners.
And even the floor was cluttered with his gifts for clients…
The tiny rental apartment, at some point, had become another office of hers.
Honestly, the single bed was her only possession there.
But he even frowned at the bed, saying it was too small. So, over the years, he had only visited her apartment once.
Before heading out, Britney called a moving company, arranging for workers to clear out the place over the weekend.
It was time to get rid of things that were never hers.

The restaurant Randell picked was recently opened and quite popular.
It was called Crescent Restaurant.
He had ordered light, nourishing dishes after she had mentioned her stomach condition on the phone.
He was being thoughtful indeed.
Thoughtfulness was something that never needed to be taught.
She used to think that Rodrick had never noticed the little things in life because of his sole attention to work.
So, she had told herself not to overthink it, to accept him as he was.
But today, he took Bianca to Opal Restaurant for the signature soup there because she was on her period.
It seemed he could be thoughtful as long as he wanted to.

For the first time in ages, she swapped her ever–present work suit for something casual and set free her always pinned–up hair.
Against the soft–toned dress, her fair skin was almost glowing.
Randell almost didn’t recognize her at the sight of her.
She took the initiative to say, “Mr. Brandt, sorry for keeping you waiting.”
Still slack–jawed, Randell widened his eyes, stuttering, “Ms. Harrington, w–what… You… You look so different. I al- most didn’t recognize you!”
As she took a seat, a strand of hair slipped over her shoulder, and she brushed it back casually.
“Ms. Harrington, may I ask you a question?” Randell couldn’t help but ask.
“Yes?” she smiled gracefully.
“Are there any weird rules in Royarch Capital?”
She arched an eyebrow. “Such as?”
“Beautiful women must appear ugly or something like that.”
Amused, she chuckled. “Thanks for the compliment, Mr. Brandt.”
“I’m just telling the truth.” Randell shrugged.
Being a top headhunter, he was smooth indeed.
In no time, he effortlessly made the atmosphere relaxed and pleasant.
As Edward stepped out of the private room, his attention was instantly drawn to Britney, who was sitting by the win-
Ow.
At first, he was simply attracted to her beauty.
Her seat was simply perfect.
The evening afterglow streamed through the floor–to–ceiling windows, gilding her silhouette.
As she was bathed in the radiance, her beauty was almost otherworldly.
Stunned, Edward instinctively walked over.
Just then, she glanced in his direction.
He abruptly stopped in his tracks, finding it hard to believe.
Was that… Britney?
He couldn’t say for sure.

To him, she was like someone from the last century–in her outdated, dull corporate outfits all year long, she wasn’t charming at all.
He used to mock Rodrick’s taste. With all those stunning women around, Rodrick had picked Britney, a total frump.
