The next second, a hand holding a black credit card reached past Aathea, followed by a woman’s voice. “I’ll pa, Mrs. Presgrave likes.”
Anathea’s gaze flicked to the side.

She narrowed her eyes when she saw Shirley, who returned her look with a smug curl of her lips.
Shirley turned to address Dayanna with a smile, “Mrs. Presgrave, ‘s been a while.”
Dayanna paused, but she didn’t take long to recognize Shirley. “Goodness, if it isn’t Shirley! What brings you here to see me?” “I’ve missed you.” Shirley nudged Anathea aside and stepped forward to link arms with Dayanna. “So, what do you make of the cosmetic procedure project I recommended to you last time?”
“It was rather decent. You must recommend more of these stellar projects to me!”
Anathea listened to their conversation. She was admittedly surprised by how friendly Shirley seemed with Dayanna.
Abad feeling came over Anathea when she saw the look on Shirley’s face. Sure enough, the next second, Shirley said, “Mrs. Presgrave, our company is hoping to work with Presgrave Group on a new project. Can I count on you to put in a good word for us?”
Dayanna was a little taken aback to hear this. “You want to work with Presgrave Group too?”
“Of course, and I can promise that our company comes to you with utmost sincerity.” Shirley handed the project proposal to
Dayanna.
“Well, I…” Dayanna gave Anathea an apologetic look. “Ms. Jacobson, I’ve always preferred shopping with friends, since they know my preferences better…”
“If you don’t mind, Mrs. Presgrave, we could be friends, too,” Anathea said mildly, though her tone was full of resolve.
“In that case, I’ll think about it.”
At that moment, the retail assistant brought out the clothes Dayanna had picked out earlier, effectively distracting her. She hurried off in excitement to try on the clothes.
While Dayanna was trying on clothes, the retail assistant brought out snacks and beverages.
Anathea glanced at the platter and suggested softly, “Could you change the latte to a black coffee and replace the cookies with something less sweet?”
The retail assistant was baffled by Anathea’s request but left to do as she asked.
Shirley snorted. “You’re putting a lot of effort into currying favor with Mrs. Presgrave.”
“So what if I am?” Anathea gave a nonchalant half–shrug.
Infuriated by Anathea’s flippant attitude, Shirley seethed. “Mrs. Presgrave is picky, so I suggest you keep whatever tricks you intend to pull here up your sleeves. You wouldn’t want to make a wrong move and embarrass yourself!”
“Whether or not my tricks will work is not up to you,” Anathea said, smirking.
Just then, Dayanna emerged from the fitting room and casually picked up the cup of coffee. After a sip, she raised a brow in satisfaction. “The coffee’s rather decent.”
“Of course. I had the retail assistant prepare it just the way you like” Shirley immediately stepped forward with the cookie platter. “If I recall correctly, Mrs. Presgrave, you aren’t a fan of sweets, so I had them bring out these less sweet cookies instead. Try one.”
Anathea didn’t look the slightest bit ruffled, even as she watched Shirley take all the credit for the same tricks she’d snorted at

Dayanna, however, seemed pleased by Shirley’s attention to detail She pointed at the clothes on the mannequ ones she was wearing, and asked, “Which of these do you think fitne best?”

“Naturally, all of these clothes suit you well, Mrs. Presgrave. You’re blessed with such refined carriage, after all,” Shirley answered before Anathea could, beaming. She gave Dayanna a suble wink. “I believe Mr. Presgrave will love seeing these new looks on you, too. Wouldn’t that be splendid?”
“Really?” A pensive look flashed in Dayanna’s eyes. She glanced at Anathea. “What about you?”
“Are you asking for my opinion, Mrs. Presgrave?” Anathea’s lips curled.
Shirley was puzzled. Why would Dayanna want to hear another round of compliments?
But the next second, Anathea pointed out slowly, “I think these clothes are fine, but you don’t look good in them, Mrs. Presgrave.”
A deathly silence filled the boutique after the words left Anathea’s mouth.
