Chapter 6
Ethan grabbed her chin. “Tell me–what’s the real story behind the fire in the ancestral hall?”
Vanessa immediately put on a pitiful expression. “Mr. Alexander, don’t you trust me? Miss Everly has been locked up for days. She’s angry and wants to burn it down out of spite.”
Ethan yanked his tie, clearly agitated. “Go back first.”
After Vanessa limped away, he called his assistant. “Get me everything on Vanessa and her parents–especially their whereabouts this past month.”
Three days later, the photo his assistant sent made his pupils constrict.
In the image, Vanessa’s father–supposedly “seriously injured and hospitalized“—was at a casino, face flushed, a mountain of chips in front of him.
“Mr. Alexander,” the assistant said grimly, “he’s been gambling here every day this week. Nc hospital records at all.”
“And her mother?” Ethan’s voice turned icy.
“Her mother…” the assistant hesitated. “She’s been keeping two male college students and splurging on luxury brands. I heard she’s… liquidating Miss Everly’s shares.”
Bang! Ethan slammed his fist through the table.
Those were the very shares he had forced Luna to transfer.
His phone buzzed again–a new message with a beauty salon address.
As Ethan neared the ward door, Vanessa’s mother’s gloating voice rang out.
“My daughter is amazing! Just a few words, and she had that Young Master Alexander eating out of her hand.”
“Mom, keep it down,” Vanessa replied, her usual softness gone, replaced by an icy edge. “Luna’s barely alive. I don’t see how she can fight me now.”
“What if she actually marries Young Master Alexander?”
“Heh,” Vanessa scoffed. “Even if they do, I have tricks. I’ll get someone to pose as her, leave a ‘mark‘ on me, and that fool Ethan will definitely get revenge.”
Ethan stood outside, fists clenched, nails digging into the frame.
“But I doubt it’ll come to that. Sooner or later, the title of Mrs. Alexander will be mine.”
Bang! Ethan kicked the door open.
Vanessa and her mother, mid–treatment, shot up from the beauty beds in terror.
His face was dark as thunder. He walked toward Vanessa slowly, voice like frost. “Vanessa, weren’t your parents too injured to leave their beds? Huh?”
Vanessa stumbled backward, pressing against the cold wall. “Mr. Alexander, please, let me explain–my mom… she got discharged early…”
“Still lying.” Ethan let out a cold smile. “Looks like you won’t stop until you hit rock bottom.”
He snapped his fingers. Two bodyguards in black dragged in a bloodied man and dropped him onto the beauty bed with a sickening thud.

“AHHHH!” Vanessa’s scream nearly split the ceiling. She recognized the battered face. “Dad… Dad?!”
The man, beaten beyond recognition, could only groan faintly, trembling fingers reaching for something.
Vanessa suddenly dropped to her knees. “Mr. Alexander, please! There must be a mistake–let my parents go, please!”
Ethan looked down at her. Once, her tears moved him. Now, they made his skin crawl.
“Mr. Alexander, please!” she cried, clinging to his leg.
Ethan slowly wiped his hands. “So? Want to try explaining again?”
He turned his eyes to Vanessa’s mother, now crumpled in the corner. “Or maybe your mother would
