Chapter 7
“Speak! I’ll tell you everything!” Vanessa screamed at once.
“Earlier, I lied, saying Luna was troubling my parents. In truth, it was all our own scheme.”
Ethan stepped hard on her wrist. “And another thing–leave out even one word, and your parents both die.”
Vanessa shook uncontrollably, hair clinging to her sweat–drenched face. The pitiful act was gone.
“I always claimed I set the ancestral hall fire by accident. But it was out of jealousy for Miss Everly–she had everything from birth. Even you, Mr. Alexander, always looked at her without realizing it.”
Ethan scoffed coldly. “Even if you gave it your all, with your background, I’d never marry you.” Vanessa suddenly laughed, tears streaming down her cheeks. “I know. That’s why I hate her so much more.”
“As long as she exists, I’ll never become Mrs. Alexander.”
Ethan lost all patience. “Take this entire family and throw them into a mental hospital.” Vanessa’s face was streaked with tears, her expression pale. She said nothing more.
Inside the ward, a heart monitor let out a piercing alarm.
My whole body felt like it was on fire; every breath was like swallowing knives.
“She needs immediate skin grafting,” the doctor told Leo seriously.
Leo’s expression turned terrifyingly cold.
He raised a hand, and soon, guards arrived with Ethan and Vanessa in tow.
“Leo! Are you insane? Do you know who I am?” Ethan shouted in fury.
Leo didn’t spare him a glance. He pointed at the quivering Vanessa. “Use her skin.”
“No! Mr. Alexander, save me!” Vanessa shook her head wildly, sobbing. “Miss Everly, I was wrong I beg you…”
The moment the anesthetic needle pierced her neck, her screams fell silent.
Ethan finally panicked. “Stop! I’ll pay you! Whatever it takes!”
Leo glanced at him, eyes full of mock pity. “Mr. Alexander, do you think my Foster family cares about your petty fortune?”
He turned to the guards. “Lock them in the basement. Keep them there as long as Luna’s been in bed.”
Ethan’s pupils shrank. “You dare? I’m part of the Alexander family-”
“Afraid now?” Leo sneered, “Where was that fear when you laid a hand on what’s mine?”
I seemed to drift in a long, hazy dream.
In it, I first bled to death during childbirth, then was burned alive.
“Luna, wake up! Please!” Someone called through the dream.

I fought to open my eyes. Slowly, my vision cleared.
Leo sat beside me, watching anxiously. “Feeling better?”
I stared at him blankly. “So… you’re Leo.”
He chuckled. “What, shocked?”
I’d asked my assistant to find a male model, but she’d brought back the young master of the Foster family.
I turned away in embarrassment.
“I approached you myself,” he said softly. “Don’t blame your assistant.”
When I looked up again, his eyes were red, as though he hadn’t slept in days.
My chest tightened. “Thank you…”
He frowned, cutting me off. “No need to thank me. Not between us.”
Just then, the phone rang.
Ethan’s furious voice exploded from the receiver. “Foster! Let me out! You have no right—”
“I don’t care how strong your Foster family is–you can’t crush the Alexander family like this!” “Say one more word,” Leo said icily, “and Alexander’s stock price will crash to the bottom.” The other end fell dead silent. Leo turned to me, his gaze filled with strange gentleness.
