Chapter 9
I used to scroll past this relationship blogger on TikTok all the time–the stories were always like something out of a soap
opera.
I never knew if they were real or just made up,
But watching those girls lose their light over some guy always made my heart sink a little.
Some of those stories, I even shared with Liam.
He told me,
If you ever feel insecure, just ask me. I’ll prove it to you over and over–I’m all in.”
But he didn’t.
grabbed Liam’s phone.
His lock screen was my birthday–I’d always known that.
But I trusted him so much, I never even thought about checking his phone.
‘Sophia, don’t–please.”
He panicked. He begged me.
Because he knew exactly what I was about to find.
typed in my birthday. It unlocked.
What a goddamn joke–his lock screen is my birthday, and yet he’s screwing another woman?
They say barely anyone walks away smiling after checking their boyfriend’s phone.
Yeah, I wasn’t the exception.
read through his texts with Alex.
Most of it was just him bitching about me.
Stupid little things.
Like the time I had cramps and asked him to grab a heating pad-
He wrote:
‘So fucking annoying. I was just falling asleep and she makes me get up to find something.”
‘She’s so damn spoiled.”
Or when it suddenly poured rain and I asked him to come pick me up-

He texted:
“Was about to hop on a couple rounds with the boys, now my girlfriend’s sending me on a fetch quest. Talk later.”
Or when I found out I was pregnant and started feeling nauseous all the time,
I told him I was craving strawberries.
He said:
“Girl eats like a monster. Doesn’t she know how expensive strawberries are right now?”
“I swear she’s gonna bankrupt me.”
All those little things I thought were normal,
To him, they were such a burden.
The more he complained, the more Alex chimed in.
And in private, she sounded nothing like the girl from that night.
“Ugh, girls are all like that. That’s why I’d rather hang with guys, less drama.”
“Let’s grab drinks sometime, you need to relax.”
So while I was planning a wedding,
Liam was unloading all his “problems” onto her.
And then a few days ago, he sent this:
“Marriage is such a drag. I don’t even feel anything anymore.”
“If we hadn’t been together seven years… if she wasn’t pregnant, I’d be out.”
I just sat there, staring at that text.
Seven years.
I thought it meant something.
I thought getting married was our happy ending.
I thought the baby I was carrying was the proof of our love.
But to Liam?
It was a fucking shackle.
Something tying him down.
Then I saw Alex text:

“Want to let loose a few more times before you lock yourself in?”
He replied:
“Yeah, might as well.”
The hotel wasn’t their first time.
Their first time was in the house we had just finished furnishing together.
