“I’m guilty–I’ve committed an unforgivable crime!”
Zion collapsed to his knees, clutching his head, curling into a ball as he dry–heaved in agony.
“Remi, I killed our child. I killed you!
“If ghosts are real, come for me–take my life. I won’t fight it.”
I let out a cold laugh. I was a ghost now, but powerless to harm anyone. If I could, I’d become a vengeful spirit in a heartbeat.
Zion’s assistant spoke up carefully from the side. “Mr. Valemont, someone else is responsible for Ms. Remi’s death.
“I’ve looked into it. The only person who had access to the fake–death drug was Ms. Gemma. And according to the se- curity footage, on the day Ms. Remi was buried, Gemma opened the coffin, said something to the body, and then took away the food you’d left.”
Zion’s head snapped up, his bloodshot eyes narrowing, his voice icy cold.
“Gemma. It was you!”
Gemma was quickly brought before Zion.
Her usual polished appearance was gone–her hair was a tangled mess, her face streaked with dirt and tears.
She dropped to her knees at Zion’s feet, begging desperately, “Zion, I was wrong. I lost my mind. You said you’d mar- ry me, but you still planned to send Remi abroad, pretending to marry her too. How could I stand to watch the man I love do that?
“I thought you loved me. You hated Remi so much–I thought you’d forgive me no matter what I did.
“Only with Remi gone could I truly secure my place as the Ravell family heir, with nothing left to threaten me! Now the Ravell family knows everything. My dad wants me dead. Only you can save me, Zion. Please, I’m begging you!”
But Zion pried her fingers off him one by one, his voice cold as steel. “I gave you everything you ever wanted. Why did you have to go so far? Why would you take your own sister’s life?
“You won’t have to wait for the Ravell family to come for you–I’ll make you wish you were dead myself.”
Gemma’s eyes filled with terror as she knocked her head against the floor over and over, but Zion kicked her hard, sending her sprawling.
His face was twisted with rage as he grabbed her by the hair and slammed her head into the ground, blood streaming down her face.

Chapter 9
Gemma lay there like a beaten dog, then suddenly burst out laughing.
“Hahahahaha…

“Zion, how are you any different from Derek? You tortured and hurt her while she was alive, then wept and repented when she was dead, pushing all the blame onto me. I can’t stand either of you!
“Who let Derek abuse Remi? Who laughed at those photos and videos? Who killed her mother? Who tricked Remi into faking her death, into giving up everything to marry you abroad?
“Was it me? No–it was you, Zion! I just finished what you started, but you’re the one who drove Remi to her grave! Now you want to play the grieving lover? Disgusting.”
I watched all of this in silence. As much as I loathed Gemma, she wasn’t wrong.
I wasn’t that naïve girl anymore–I wouldn’t be moved by Zion’s obsession, or even consider forgiving him.
Anyone who has watched their own life slip away, screaming for help until their voice is gone, only to be buried deep underground where no sound escapes, knows a despair that brings nothing but clarity.
I would never forgive the people who hurt me.
I wanted them to suffer as I had suffered.
