Before long, the Valemont family’s security team rushed in, restraining Derek and dragging him away.
Zion’s face was battered and bruised, but he didn’t seem to care. He stumbled toward my corpse, clutching it tightly, mumbling to himself.
“Remi can’t be dead. Someone get a doctor, now! Why hasn’t the fake death drug worn off yet?”
While they waited for the doctor, Gemma approached Zion cautiously, her voice soft and gentle. “Zion, Remi is al- ready gone. I’m heartbroken too. If only we’d dug her up sooner… But what’s done is done. We have to look forward. Now, our plan is foolproof–dead people can’t talk.
“But before the Ravell family finds out, we have to silence Derek. We need everyone to believe he’s just a madman, so obsessed with his wife that he dug up her grave.
“If my dad hears about any of this, I’m finished. Zion, you promised you’d stand by me, that you’d protect me, right?”
Zion sat there, holding me, his eyes empty and haunted. But when Gemma finished speaking, he suddenly snapped.
Smack!
Zion slapped Gemma hard across the face, his jaw clenched in fury. “I’ll say it one more time–Remi is not dead! ·
“The fake–death drug must have been too strong. That’s why she hasn’t woken up yet. As for everyone else, their lives don’t matter to me anymore.”
Gemma clutched her cheek, a bright red handprint marring her delicate features.
She stared at Zion in shock and confusion, unable to understand why he was losing his mind over my death.
She wasn’t the only one confused–even I was baffled.
Zion had always said he would hurt me a thousand times over for Gemma’s sake.
Now, he was deluding himself, refusing to accept that I was really gone.
Gemma was right–only with me dead could the two of them finally be together without fear or guilt.
But now, Gemma was truly panicking. She never expected Zion to care about me this much.
If he ever found out what she’d done, who knew what he might do?
I watched Gemma’s guilty expression and smiled silently. Things had spiraled out of control–there was no hiding the truth anymore.
Soon, the world would see these two for what they really were.

As Gemma tried to slip away, the doctor finally arrived. He performed a quick examination of my body right there, then shook his head with a heavy sigh.
“Mr. Valemont, I’m sorry for your loss. Ms. Remi is most certainly deceased.”
Zion’s grip on my arm tightened, and the last glimmer of hope vanished from his eyes.
“Why? I calculated everything–the fake death drug, the oxygen tank, I even left water and food. How could Remi be dead?”
The doctor replied cautiously, “From what I can tell, someone tampered with the dosage. Ms. Remi must have woken up early and struggled inside the coffin for a long time before she died.”
Zion’s head snapped up, his bloodshot eyes so terrifying that even I, just a wandering soul, felt a chill.
“Find out who did this!”
His voice was like a demon’s growl from the depths of hell.
“In three days, I want to know exactly who did this!”
The man who had brought the news hesitated, but finally spoke up. “Mr. Valemont, when Derek opened the coffin, I checked carefully. There was no food at all—just a single oxygen tank. You should probably see the site for yourself.”
