The caretaker gently kissed Chloe’s cheek. “Chlor, you’ll have a wonderful lite soon. Once the paternity test results come back, you’ll have a new home.”
No matter what kind of home it was, it had to be better than living with her mother, a murderer
The caretaker stood and walked away to care for the other children, and Chloe commued quietly drawing
Suddenly, a cool, indifferent voice came from across the table. “They won’t take you.”
Chloe paused, lifting her head in confusion. The boy who spoke had an impressive face; even though he was only ten, he was taller than most kids his age and already showed signs of becoming exceptionally handsome in the future.
He sat cross–legged, holding a Cinderella storybook with one hand, his phoenix shapeil eyes icy: “Don’t get your hopes up”
She pouted. “You’re wrong. Daddy will definitely come get me. Stop teasing me.”
Merrick Lyle had come to the orphanage two years earlier.
Everyone said he was the illegitimate son of some powerful man; after his mother died from illness and his father refused to acknowledge him, Merrick ended up here.
Merrick had a fierce temper and was good at lighting. When he first arrived, no one dared to speak to him; he flew off the handle at the slightest provocation and bit everyone’s head off if they got too close.
Chloe had always been bullied in the orphanage for being cute. Merrick, sering her mistreated, fought for her, taught her how to defend herself, and protected her.
She was the only one Merrick treated kindly.
When the caretakers couldn’t manage Merrick, they relied on Chloe to pass messages; only then would Merrick listen. reluctantly. Everyone joked she was the “boss‘ favorite.”
The day her mom came to take her away, Merrick didn’t show up. Hur when she returned to the orphanage seven days earlier, he was the first to greet her.
She preferred staying indoors instead of playing outside.
indon
Merrick used to love outdoor play, but during these past seven days, he stayed with her indoors, criticizing fairy tale princesses for being stupid as he read.
He was gentle, yet harsh at the same time. Merrick moved next to her, confidently analyzing the situation. “Your mom took you for a year; did that man ever visit? He didn’t, right? They think you’re unlucky. Even if you’re really their daughter, they
won’t admit it.”
A few boys walked in, overheard this, and laughed loudly. “Merrick, you just don’t want Chloe to leave, do you? You were ecstatic when she came back. You wouldn’t even eat properly when she wasn’t here!”
Merrick’s expression darkened instantly, and he threw the storybook at them, “Get lost!”
Chlor quietly clutched her drawing pen, looking at the figure she’d drawn on the card, feeling more unhappy
Could Merrick be right? Even if the paternity test proved it, would my dad still refuse to accept mel
On the other hand, Andres face darkened as he stared at the paternity test results.
The results stated a 99 9991 likelihood that Chloe was indeed his biological daughter.
This three sons reacted irritably upon seeing the document.
Marvin had the strongest reaction. “I refuse! Even if she’s biologically ours, I won’t accept her! She doesn’t deserve to be our

The other two brothers remained silent, their eyes silently turning to Andres. Their expressions made it clear they didn’t want Chloe either..
They would adore a sister born to their own mother, but Chloe meant nothing to them.
Her birth wasn’t welcomed by their family.
She was Alice’s daughter.
Andres hesitated briefly, then threw the test report into the trash bin. These past seven days, he’d been extremely busy, yet during quiet moments, he’d often wondered what he’d do if Chloe turned out to be his daughter. Should I raise her or not!
