Chapter 3
Three days before I was supposed to leave–it was my birthday,
Lorian and I had already made plans to go racing
I didn’t really want to go, but to avoid any drama, I stuck to our agreement and headed out.
Just as I’d finished changing into my racing gear, Wilda appeared timidly at the door Mr.Vale, Mrs.Vale, you’re going racing? I’ve never tried it before. Could I… could come with you?”
She rubbed her growing belly, looking at Lorian with hopeful eyes.
“Absolutely not. You’re pregnant,” Lorian frowned, his tone firm.
Wilda bit her lip. “But I really want to go.Being cooped up at home all day isn’t good for the baby either.”
That subtle little pout made Lorian’s resolve waver,
I couldn’t stand to hear any more and headed for the door.
Just as I reached it, I heard Lorian’s defeated sigh behind me,“Fine. But you do exactly what I say the entire time.”
Lorian personally helped her into the motorcycle, his hand constantly protecting her lower back like he was handling priceless treasure.
At the track, I quietly picked out a decent motorcycle and slipped on my helmet.
The man who used to teach me how to race–holding my hands, guiding me–now only had eyes for another woman.
He adjusted her gear, fitted her helmet, terrified she might get hurt.
He had Wilda ride behind him the whole time, grabbed her hands, and ordered her to hold tight around his waist.
Then he moved slowly, while tought her how to handle it.
Until his phone rang
He glanced at the screen and frowned slightly.
Wilda immediately played the understanding girlfriend“Lorian, go take care of business. I’ve got the hang of it now–I can ride by myself.”
Lorian looked unsure, triple–checking that she could keep the motorcycle balanced before finally stepping away to
take the call.
Chapter 3
I rode ahead, watching this whole scene play out in my rearview mirror.
“Mrs.Vale?” Wilda suddenly pulled up beside me, that sweet smile plastered on her face. “Tell me, what happens when two bikes crash into each other? I’ve never seen it before.”
Before I could answer, she suddenly gunned it–and we slammed into each other!
I fought like hell to keep my motobike steady, grabbing for the brakes.
But the brake pads seemed to have fucking failed.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Wilda “accidentally” let go, tumbling off her motor.
‘Wilda!”
Lorian practically flew over, catching her before she hit the ground.
Meanwhile, my bike spun out of control toward the cliff edge.
‘Lorian… help me!”
I screamed over the engine noise, my voice lost in the chaos.
I saw him scoop up the unconscious Wilda and sprint down the mountain without a backward glance.
My motorcycle burst through the guardrail, and I felt that sickening weightless drop.
After God knows how many rolls and tumbles, I finally lost consciousness, my eyes slowly closing.
