When he saw the murderous look in Gregory’s eyes, he finally realized that Gregory was talking about Anathea,
“What are you even talking about?” Theo snapped. “When did I ever break her heart?”
“You’re denying it?” Gregory hurled his phone straight at Theo’s face.
It hit Theo right on the bridge of his nose, making him wince in pain. “Damn it!”
Gregory really didn’t know how to hold back
But the moment Theo got a good look at the screen–a photo of him chatting with two curvy women up close–he paused.
“This has got to be a weird camera angle!” Theo protested immediately. “I wasn’t sitting that close!”
Gregory still didn’t speak. He just stared sharply at Theo.
But the truth was, this wasn’t even about the photo. He didn’t care how many women Theo had been with. What made his blood boil was that Anathea had accepted a man like that.
What did Theo have that he didn’t?
Theo instinctively swallowed hard. He could feel the icy killing intent in Gregory’s eyes. If he so much as said the wrong word, Gregory would turn into a rampaging lion and tear his throat out without a second thought.
Just then, Adrian finally broke the silence. He turned to Theo. “Did you see Anathea today?”
Theo hesitated, then nodded once.
Adrian studied Gregory’s expression and knew he was on the right track. He pressed again, “Why did you go see her?”
At that, realization finally dawned on Theo. This was why Gregory was so furious. No wonder he said what he did.
It was all because of that ring Theo gave Anathea. Gregory must’ve thought she had accepted him and chosen to be with him.
Theo clenched his jaw, grinding his molars.
He did want to show off in front of Gregory–tell him straight up that Anathea had accepted his ring and said yes to giving things a shot with him.
He wanted to warn Gregory and make it clear that he needed to back off and stay far away from Anathea.
But just as the words were about to leave his mouth, they caught in his throat. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t say them.
Because…
“Sorry. I should’ve said this earlier, but I think it’s better if we just stay friends.”
Anathea’s calm voice still echoed in Theo’s ears.
She’d turned him down.
And not just that. She’d taken off the necklace he’d given her and tried to return it.
“Thank you, but this is too much. I can’t accept something this expensive.”
And she’d given him back the ring too.
Anathea’s decisiveness left him with nothing to say.

“If you really don’t want them, throw them away. I don’t take back gifts I’ve given.”
Before she could react, he’d run back to the car, hit the ignition, and sped off. He’d been afraid that if he stayed a second longer, Anathea might refuse him again.
And his already fragile pride wouldn’t survive that. That was why he’d ended up at the boxing gym, working out his frustration on a sparring partner.
But instead of a sparring partner, he got Gregory, a one–man wrecking crew, storming in with rage and landing a punch without a word.
What did Theo do to deserve this?
Now, with Gregory glaring at him like he wanted to kill him, Theo turned to the side and muttered under his breath, “She turned me down.”
Gregory’s tense body eased up just a little at those words. Even his eyes looked a shade clearer.
Adrian, who’d been staring at Theo like he was a suspect, now looked at him with sympathy.
“Ah, so it was just a misunderstanding,” Louie said quickly, trying to smooth things over as he stepped between them. “Since that’s the case, how about you both apologize and let this slide?”
“No way!” Gregory and Theo snapped at the exact same time.
