Reliet washed over Amber’s face when she saw Dominde Blackwood standing in the doorway. His commanding presence immediately shifted the atmosphere in the room. Since entering the Blackwood household, Amber had been running on pure adrenaline–tense, exhausted, in pain, and relying solely on her well’s strength to keep her upright.
Dominde’s arrival was like a pressure valve releasing. The facade she’d maintained while defending Lucas crumbled instantly.
She rushed to him, surprise evident in her voice. “What are you doing here?”
–
Dominic’s piercing blue eyes took in her disheveled appearance–His oversized clothes hanging off her small frame, the visible bruises pecking from beneath the collar, the existion written across her face.
“What am I doing here? His deep voice carried a hint of irritation, I should be asking
g why you’re rushing into situations without thinking ”
Amber leaned into him, suddenly aware of how completely drained she felt. “I didn’t want to disturb you. When I woke up and you were gone, Lassumed you had something important to do.”
The sight of Lucas being beaten had kept her hardened and focused, but now, in Dominic’s arms, the walls came crashing down The pain she’d been suppressing returned in full force, making herwince.
“I’m so tired,” she admitted, hugging him tightly
Across the room, Ethan watched the scene with a storm of emotions brewing inside him. Confusion, jealousy, anger–they swirled together in a toxic mix. He couldn’t understand why seeing Amber in his cousin’s arms still bothered him so much. He’d been the one to break their mate bond, choosing Melissa instead. Yet something primal inside him rebelled at the sight
“Why is she dressed in your clothes?” Ethan blurted out, unable to contain himself
Dominic ignored him o
completely, his focus entirely on Amber.
“You should have called me,” he murmured, his voice low enough that only she could hear.
William Blackwood observed the interaction with narrowed eyes, les grip on his walking cane tightening.
Melissa edged closer to Ethan, seeking protection as she sensed the shitting dynamics in the room. Her face was pale with worry.
Dominic took Amber in his arms, cradling her against his chest as he turned to leave, dismissing everyone else in the room.
“Wait!” Ivy Reed’s shrill voice cut through the silence. “You can’t just leave! Your nephew broke your mother’s healing crystal- the one she always kept on her pillow!”
Dominic stopped dead in his tracks. Amber felt his body tense beneath her cheek.
“There’s no proof Lucas broke it,” Amber quickly clarified, looking up at Dominic. “Melissa, Ethan, and Ivy claim they saw him do it, but Lucas denies it.”
Dominic’s jaw tightened as he turned to face his father. “Is this true, Father? You’re punishing Lucas for breaking Mother’s crystal?”
William Blackwood’s face remained impassive. “The boy was disciplined for lying, not just for breaking the crystal.”
“How hypocritical,” Dominic’s voice was cold as ice. “Now you show attachment to Mother? That healing crystal wasn’t even her favorite–it was something you forced on her.”
The room fell silent at his accusation.
“She hated that crystal,” Dominic continued, his voice gaining strength. “She only kept it because you insisted it would help with her sleep disorder. I’m glad it’s broken.”

William’s face paled slightly, but he remained silent, clearly unwilling to challenge his son publicly.

Dominic turned his attention to lacas, who was still sitting on the Boor, his back covered in healing salve. “Even if you did smash it, Lucas, it was a good smash.”
Lucas stared up at him, confusion written across his face.
“In fact,” Dominic continued, “I’d like to offer you a position. How would you feel about managing Investments for Blackwood Pack’s company in the human world?”
The room empted in shocked whispers.
Ethan stepped forward, his face flushed with anger. “You can’t be serious! Lucas has no qualifications! He’s a loser who only knows how to eat, drink, and be merry!”
Dominic tumed to his cousin, his expression dangerously calm. “don’t recall asking for your opinion, Ethan. As future Alpha, this is my decision to make.”
“But—” Ethan sputtered.
“I am the Alpha King,” Dominic’s voice dropped to a threatening numble. “I can appoint whoever I want.”
Ivy Reed’s face contorted with fury as she realized her plan to trap Lucas had backfired spectacularly. She opened her mouth to protest but flinched when Dominic shot her a warning glare
Melissa stood frozen, fear washing over her as the implications hither. She had broken the crystal deliberately. Things had been going badly lately, and when she saw the healing crystal, a plan had formed. Lucas always took Amber’s side and was mean to her–framing him had seemed perfect. Now her scheme was unraveling before her eyes.
(Amber’s POV)
Dominic carried me to the car, his strong arms cradling me against his chest. The warmth of his body seeped into mine, easing. some of the pain from my injuries.
Once we were settled in the backseat and the car pulled away from the Blackwood mansion, I finally asked the question th been burning in my mind.
“Why did you give Lucas that position?”
Dominic’s lips curved into a slight smile. “Don’t underestimate Lucas.”
As the car merged onto the main road, Dominic instructed Felix to raise the privacy divider. Once we were alone, he pulled me onto his lap and kissed me passionately. The kiss was a mixture of tenderness and reprimand, his lips both gentle and demanding against mine.
I felt his wolf, Leo, rumble with contentment at having his mate in his arms.
When he finally broke the kiss, his blue eyes were intense. “Why didn’t you call me when Rebecca fold you about Lucas? Iblinked, surprised by the question. “I didn’t want to bother you with something I thought I could handle.”
“Bother me?” His voice carried a hint of irritation. “Am I just an afterthought to you, Amber?”
1 shook my head, trying to explain. “I was worried you’d be angry about the broken crystal. It belonged to your mother and “That’s not the point,” he interrupted. “I want to know why everyone else seems to come before me in your priorities”
His words caught me off guard. “What do you mean?”
“You rushed to help Lacas. You’d drop everything for Paige.” His fingers traced my jawline. “Who else is important to you?
I considered his question. “Well, Paige and Lucas, of course. And my cousin Mason.”

“Anyone else?” His voice was deceptively casual.
**No one else,” I answered honestly.
Dominic’s eyes narrowed, and he bit my chin lightly in reproot. “You forgot someone.
I stared at him, confused
“Me,” he e said flatly. “I’m not even on your list. Is that how little I mean to you?”
My heart skipped a beat at the vulnerability hidden beneath his accusation. “That’s not true. You’re different.”
“Different how? he pressed.
“You’re…” I struggled to find the right words. “You’re not just on the list. You’re the reason there’s a list at all.”
(Dominic’s POV)
We returned to Amber’s riverside apartment, and I stayed for dinner. Afterward, I accompanied her to bed for a much–needed nap. Her body was still recovering from the beating she’d received, and her wolf, Cora, had been working overtime to keep her functioning
The moment her head hit the pillow, Amber fell into a deep sleep watched as the tension finally left her body, her wolf finally able to relax after the stressful day.
1 remained by her side, working on my laptop while she slept. Several pack matters required my attention, but they could wait Amber’s well–being took priority.
She awoke at five o’clock, blinking in surprise when she found me still there.
“You’re still here?” Her voice was husky with sleep.
“Where else would I be?” I closed my laptop and set it aside.
She sat up, winding slightly as her sore muscles protested. “Don’t you have pack business to attend to?”
“I’ve postponed everything that isn’t urgent,” I explained. “Your injury takes precedence.”
Her amber eyes widened slightly at my words.
“I had Felix bring some clothes for you,” I gestured to the shopping bags by the bedroom door. “Your current wardrobe options are limited.”
“You bought me clothes?” She looked genuinely touched by the gesture.
“Felix instructed his assistant to purchase items based on your preferences,” Iclarified. “I provided your sizes.”
A small smile played at the corners of her mouth. “Thank you.”
She hesitated then asked, “Where did you go this morning? When woke up, you were already gone.”
I considered how to break the news gently. “I went to Crescent Hospital”
“Hospital?” Alarm flashed across her face. “Are you okay?”
T’niline,” Lassured her. “It was Ryan who needed medical attention.”
Her brow furrowed in confusion. “Ryan? What happened to him?”
“Paige hit him,” I said simply, “He’s been hospitalized.”
