Feeling the soft touch in his arms, for a brief moment, Theodore even thought he was deaming. After all, she would only cling to him like this when the was sound asleep at night.

He knew Clinton–an infamous playboy who would do anything, no matter how shameless For Eliana to have crossed paths with him was like a lamb walking into a tiger’s den.
Eliana continued, “I just wanted to renew the lease for the Therapy Center, but he wanted to buy the whole land.
“He offered ten million dollars outright, and I only have one million, with 500 thousand of that still tied up with my parents. There’s no way I can compete with him.”
Seeing how disheartened she looked, Theodore asked, “is this Therapy Center… really that important to you?”
Without thinking. Eliana answered, “Exactly. It’s the reason I married you in the first place.”
Theodore froze for a second. He had always assumed she married him for money or status, yet he never expected the truth to be so different.
Eliana continued, “Clinton said everyone at the Therapy Center has to move out by tomorrow. How can just one day be enough to pack up and leave?” She sighed, “And the worst part is, there’s nothing I can do about it.”
She rubbed her neck with a wince, which still ached.

Hearing her remarks, Theodore didn’t press the issue. Instead, he said, “Get Samuel here”
When Eliana opened the door, she found Samuel grinning at her and waggling his eyebrows suggestively, as if implying something had just happened behind closed doors.
Theodore’s mood soured instantly, and he growled, “Samuel, move
your ass in here.”
Samuel immediately straightened up and walked inside.
Eliana follow Samueled to approach Theodore, but Samuel blocked her path and said, “Mrs. Russell, I’m about to examine Mr. Theodore Russell eyes. Can you please leave us alone?”

Samuel thought with a smirk, “Because he still doesn’t want you to know he can see again. What kind of twisted little game is this, huh?”
Suppressing his internal complaints, Samuel replied with a serious face. “Because if there’s one more person in the room, I’ll get distracted. If i get distracted and accidentally poke his eye with the forceps, do you think that’s okay?”

Eliana winced at the mental image and left without another word.

Seeing the look on Theodore’s face grow increasingly serious, Samuel added with quiet sincerity, “That’s probably why she wants to protect that place so badly. I mean who doesn’t want a place to call home?“.

Though Anthony was smiling, as it simply teasing, the implications behind his words stirred unease
Theodore responded with a look of quiet arrogance. “Take her away? How could that be? She’s mine to begin with.”
Anthony’s eyes glinted with Eight. “Fair enough. But if I hadn’t stepped in first, Eliana would’ve already been dragged off by Clinton. Dr. Wilson wouldn’t have caught up, even if he could fly,”
“Unfortunately for you, he did catch up.” Theodore remained composed, as if he were merely stating an outcome.
But that one word “unfortunately” carried an undercurrent that made/
Anthony’s expression stiffen.
Noticing the tension between the two men, Eliana cleared her throat and raised her glass of water. “Anthony, I do owe you thanks for saving me.”
She made a move to stand, intending to offer her thanks formally. But just as she began to rise, Theodore’s long leg hooked hers beneath the table, and she dropped right back into her seat.
Startled, Eliana turned to look at Theodore, wondering. ‘How did he even know I was about to stand up?!
Anthony gave a small nod, his smile growing a shade deeper. “Eliana, you are really the sweetest. At least you remembered me. You know, I ditched Alice on purpose just to help you”
As he spoke, he turned to look at Theodore, only to find him wearing a stony, indifferent expression.
Of everyone at the table, only Eliana remained unaware of the Layers beneath the surface. She blinked and said earnestly, “Oh, I didn’t know that. The next time I see Ms. Powell, I’ll be sure to apologize to her.
“No need.” Her words had barely landed before two male voices spoke in unison.
Anthony immediately latched onto the moment, smiling as if he had caught Theodore in a trap. “Theodore, I said there’s no need because I’m Alice’s fiancé, so I’m in a position to speak for her. But what about you? What gives you the right to say that?”
Even Eliana turned to Theodore in confusion, thinking, ‘True. Why did Theodore refuse on Alice’s behalf! It doesn’t make sense

Lainey, watching the tense exchange unfold, felt her heart pound in her chest. Theodore’s calm and commanding manner reminded her more and more of the man who once ran the family and the company with unshakable authority.
