s soon as Sonia arrived at the company, she heard enthusiastic applause in the hallway.
She paused, looked up, and saw that almost all her colleagues on the entire floor had come out. Some held confetti cannons, others carried coffee and pastries, smiling as they said: “Our N.M Shield is finally here!”
An engineer laughed and shouted: “Everyone make way, let the legend walk the red carpet!”
Sonia walked through the crowd with mixed feelings. A client representative even caught up from behind and shook her hand–it was the fund manager who had nearly lost his entire financial database last night, his face full of excitement.
‘You’re Sonia Coleman?” he asked in a tone somewhere between awe and gratitude. “I don’t know how to thank you… You didn’t just save our company, you probably saved the entire industry.”
‘I just did what I was supposed to do.” Sonia’s tone remained calm, but her eyes were gentle.
When she returned to her office, she suddenly received a call from her father, Andrew Coleman.
After hesitating for a moment, she answered.
‘Sonia, can you and Conrad come home for a visit?”
Sonia had a vague idea of what this was about, and her expression soured. “Just say what you need
o say. I’m busy.”
‘No matter how busy you are, you should come home. Tonight then–it’s settled!”
Before Sonia could refuse, he hung up.
While Conrad was in a company meeting, he also received a text from Diana: “Conrad, Caleb has
rrived at kindergarten safely. Thank you–without you, Caleb wouldn’t have been able to attend
¡chool.”
He glanced at it and tapped the screen with his fingertips, replying: “It’s nothing.”
When he opened WhatsApp, his gaze suddenly stopped on Sonia’s chat box.

Chapter 13
He just noticed that her last message was from the 8th of last month.
She had asked if he would be coming home for the weekend.
He hadn’t replied.
Until now, she hadn’t sent him another message.
She really could keep her composure.
