Chapter 4
The doctor came for rounds.
“Broken bones can be reset, but ligaments and tendons are difficult to repair.
“The patient’s injuries have gone too long without treatment. If she had come to the hospital right after being injured, we could have guaranteed at least eighty percent recovery of her hand function, but now…”
The doctor shook his head helplessly.
“The VIP patient upstairs is the daughter of the Fairfax Group. She was also injured a few days ago, just a minor fracture, but the Waverley family brought in a top global expert team to treat her. They’re still at the hospital now. If we could get them to take action, I believe there’s still a chance for the patient’s hands to recover function. I’m not saying one hundred percent, but at least daily activities like eating and dressing wouldn’t be affected…”
The female doctor in charge of the ward was full of sympathy for me. “Our director personally went to ask, but when they heard it was you, they said you need to kneel before Miss Isabella and beg…”
She knew this was humiliating, but she had to speak plainly, as this was what the Fairfax family gentleman had specifically requested she convey.
Remembering that gentleman’s murderous gaze, she was still trembling.
I smiled and said, “It’s okay, I can still die.”
How tragic that these words actually came from my own brother. He had truly forgotten all about mother’s death.
The doctor’s face turned pale with fright, unable to utter another word asking me to beg.
Because they knew well that if a patient angrily and emotionally talked about death, they could consider it a momentary emotional breakdown, but when a patient spoke very calmly or even smiled while saying she could die, she truly wanted to
die.
Theodore lost control again.
“Victoria, stop being unreasonable!”
“You hurt Isabella first. It’s just kneeling and apologizing… Is a little pride really more important than your life?”
I turned to stare at him and sneered coldly, “You want me to apologize to a murderer who killed my mother?
“I’d rather die!”
Theodore was so angry his veins bulged.
This usually aloof and indifferent person for the first time, I saw him so out of control.
Did he really want me to kneel before Isabella that badly?
