Chapter 91
“You never thought she’d latch onto someone so high–profile, did you? But what’s the point? Mr. Theodore Russell has someone else on his mind.
“When that chandelier crashed down, even though she got hurt too, he just scooped up his first love and walked away without a backward glance. Poor Ellie,” Hannah said, though her face was completely devoid of pity.
Bernice felt a sudden metallic taste in her throa
The e pain in her chest was so intense that she spat out blood.
Hannah quickly stepped back to avoid getting her dre

Hannah turned at the noise. A flash of guilt passed through her eyes before she greeted Eliana as casually as ever. “Fancy running into you here.”
Eliana froze for an instant, then rushed over to Bernice. Holding her steady, she asked anxiously, “Bernie, are you all right?”
Bernice kept her eyes shut, trembling and silent.
Eliana rounded on Hannah, demanding, “What did you do?!”
Hannah twirled a lock of hair by her ear. “I just told her the truth. Ellie, you made such a huge sacrifice for this place. Why keep it a secret?”
At those words, Éliana looked at Bernice in a panic.
Bernice opened her eyes then, her gaze still full of shock, along with deep–seated disappointment and sorrow. “Ellie, you shouldn’t have…”
Eliana quickly wiped the blood from Bernice’s lips with her sleeve, acting like a guilty child as she babbled apologies. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have lied to you. Please, don’t be mad at me.”
After taking a few shaky breaths, Bernice stared straight at Eliana. “Does he love you?”
Eliana was struck dumb, unable to answer.
Bernice’s heart ached even more. “How could you trade your marriage for the Therapy Center? I’d rather this place burn to ashes than see you do something so reckless!”
With that, she pulled her hand away from Eliana and stumbled out of the classroom.
Eliana stared in shock at Bernice’s retreating figure. Bernice had always been the one to hold her hand, encourage her, and offer guidance. This was the first time she’d pulled away.
Turning to Hannah with rage, she snapped, “Hannah, why did you have to bring this drama here?!”
“I’m the one who should be asking that! What did you do to Nolan to make him transfer you back to the department and vouch for you in front of
everyone?”
That day, she’d been certain Nolan would come to explain the tabloid rumors, so she’d waited–from morning until evening–but he never showed. Later, she learned he’d spent the entire day with Eliana, even firing two employees for her, while the apology she’d been waiting for never came.
How could Hannah not resent her?
Ever since Eliana married Theodore, their fortunes had seemed to flip. Eliana’s life was improving by the day, while Hannah’s career and love life were both in shambles. Since Eliana made her suffer, she intended to pay it back double.

“You’re mistaken. It’s not Mr. Hall being kind to me. You’re the one throwing away his trust.”
After a beat, Eliana added, “Hannah, you’d better think about what’ll happen when you’ve exhausted all of Mr. Hall’s goodwill toward you.
This struck a raw nerve. “Shut your mouth! I don’t need lectures from a miserable nobody who’s been unwanted since childhood!”
Seeing she still wouldn’t admit fault, Eliana, fueled by anger, slapped her twice across the face.
“Those slaps are for Bemie and for myself. From today on, we’re not sisters. If you want to fight, I’m ready anytime.”
Her strikes were so forceful that Hannah’s face quickly turned red and swollen.
“Eliana, how dare you hit me?!” Hannah roared. Ever since they were kids, she’d always been the one to pick

Con Eliana. Now Eliana had the nerve to hit
Eliana’s eyes narrowed. “You’re the one who pushed me.”
“Fine. You think you’re tough? Just wait and see!” Hannah sneered, clutching her cheek as she stormed out.
Eliana was confused. She’d expected Hannah to fight back, but instead, she’d left without a word. But Bernice was her first priority now.
When she reached Bernice’s office, a teacher was standing at the door. “Ellie, what happened between you and Ms. Halverson? She looked really upset when she came in,” the teacher asked.
Eliana pressed her lips together. “Can I go in?”
“Ms. Halverson said she needs some time alone right now. Maybe you should head home first.” Though the teacher spoke gently, Eliana knew Bernice was avoiding her.
She wanted to barge in, but remembering Bernice’s coughing up blood, she didn’t dare add to her stress.
“Okay, I’ll go,” she said in a hoarse voice.
Just then, someone tugged at the back of her outfit. She turned to see a four- or five–year–old boy holding up a lollipop, his eyes full of innocence as he offered it to her.
Eliana felt warmth in her chest, tears welling up in her eyes. How could she give up a place like this?
As she left the Therapy Center in a daze, she noticed a police car parked not far away. A police officer approached her immediately. “Are you Eliana?”
Eliana nodded automatically. “Yes,”
The police officer said, “Someone filed a report about you intentionally causing injury. Please come with us to the police station.”
Eliana instantly realized what was happening. No wonder Hannah hadn’t retaliated after getting slapped–she’d gone to report her to the police instead.
At the police station, Eliana was detained after admitting to hitting Hannah.
Before leaving, Hannah raised an eyebrow and sheered at her smugly. “Stay here and think about what you did.”
However, after learning they were sisters and that Hannah had only suffered minor injuries, the officer told Eliana, “Since this is a minor case, someone can bail you out.”
Eliana picked up her phone and scrolled through her contacts one by one.

Chapter 91
There was no point in calling Hudson or Belinda. If they found out she’d hit Hannah, they’d probably want her locked up for good. After some thought, she finally called Theodore.
At Russell Group, an employee said, “Mr. Russell, your phone is ringing.”
Theodore was in the middle of receiving the work handed off by Anthony, with hundreds of senior executives watching. He was about to give a speech, so he couldn’t answer the phone. He told his secretary, “Answer it for me.”
“Yes, sir.” The secretary immediately stepped out with his phone.
