Chapter 19
When Knox came to, he found himself lying in an unfamiliar place. After a few seconds of confusion, he bolted upright, remembering he’d collapsed at Mara’s doorstep. Did this mean she was the one taking care of him?
Joy and excitement immediately flooded his heart. Knox carefully got out of bed, wanting to steal a glimpse of her. He’d barely made it to the living room when he spotted a busy figure in the kitchen.
It was Mara.
His heart warmed, emotions of loss and recovery washing over him.
He wanted to rush over immediately, hold her tight in his arms, tell her about all the love he’d carried for her through the years, let her know she didn’t need to worry anymore. But he’d only taken two steps forward when he saw there was someone else in the kitchen–another man who beat him to it, wrapping his arms around Mara from behind.
‘Come on, quit it. I’m making soup here.”
‘You’re not making soup for your ex–husband, are you, Ms. Mara? You two are divorced.”
‘It’s for you. Didn’t you say yesterday you wanted to try this soup?”
me.”
‘Then I want you to feed it to me.”
Mara laughed helplessly. She ladled up a spoonful, blew on it to cool it down, then brought it to the man’s lips. Watching him drink it, her eyes lit up with tenderness and happiness–a sight that cut Knox to the core.
How could Mara look at someone else like that? She used to make soup only for him. Whenever he got sick, Mara would spend hours making a small pot of soup, cooling it bit by bit and feeding it to him. As soon as he drank it, she’d smile so her eyes crinkled–so how had that become some other man’s privilege?
He couldn’t believe what he was seeing. He stood there in shock, watching for a long time before finally speaking in
a hoarse voice.
‘Mara…”
His voice abruptly interrupted the two of them. Mara turned around, no longer wearing that gentle expression–instead, she looked at him coldly.
‘Since you’re awake, you can leave now, Knox. If you collapse at my door again, no matter what the reason, I won’t take care of you anymore.”
Knox felt pierced by her coldness, as if an invisible hand was squeezing his heart tight, making it hard to breathe.
This should have been a reunion, their first meeting in so long, but Mara didn’t look happy at all. She… she even

found him revolting.
Knox suddenly recognized that meaning, and it terrified him. How could Mara hate him? How could she be with
another man?
A tangle of complex emotions churned in his chest. He took several deep breaths, trying to keep them under control.
“We’ve only been divorced a few months, and you already have someone new…” But the moment he opened his
mouth, he still couldn’t hold back his jealousy and bitterness.
Mara remained silent.
Looking at the man in front of her, she truly hadn’t expected Knox to track her down here. But seeing him, aside from feeling like he was a stranger, she had absolutely no other emotions left–as if disappointment and love had both been completely worn away by the past.
Even facing his questioning, she felt nothing.
When she’d first arrived in Paris, she’d thrown herself straight into work. Her mentor hadn’t lied–though the studio was still small, it was already taking shape. Within a month, she’d familiarized herself with all the workflows.
That’s when Dylan appeared. He showed up without warning, as if he’d come specifically for her. At first, when Mara discovered his identity, she thought Knox had sent him, but Dylan assured her he didn’t know Knox at all.
It took months for Mara to gradually let her guard down.
Yesterday had been her first date with Dylan, but because of the heavy rain, she couldn’t get home and had to stay over at his place. She never expected that when Dylan brought her back, they’d find Knox collapsed at her door.
Her first reaction was that he was insane.
Still, she’d gotten Dylan to help her carry Knox inside.
At the time, Dylan had raised an eyebrow at her.
“Don’t tell me you still have feelings for him?”
