Chapter 5
Four years ago, my sister Vanessa was about to marry Jackson Harrison, the sole heir to the Harrison fortune who she’d grown up with since childhood. As her only sibling, I was “generously” brought back from the backwater town where I’d been raised to join the Anderson family.
But my first night in the Anderson mansion was far from peaceful. I was jolted awake by a bucket of ice water and found myself staring into a pair of hateful eyes.
What followed was my sister’s tearful accusations and my parents‘ verbal and physical abuse echoing through every corner of the room.
By dawn, Vanessa had resolutely pushed her upcoming marriage onto me and fled overseas alone.
From that moment on, my life veered completely off course.
Seeing my pale face now, Vanessa walked over with her fake concern.
Jackson stood behind her, his gaze heavy with meaning as it landed on me. Clearly, he’d heard the gossip too.
I pushed away Vanessa’s hand and forced myself to walk into the living room.
Mr. Anderson stood in the center, beaming.
“From today forward, I officially transfer full control of all Anderson assets to my daughter Vanessa! She’s still young, so I hope you’ll all guide her along the way.”
The guests applauded and raised their glasses in congratulation.
Vanessa held her head high, a permanent smile plastered on her face.
“Thank you, Dad. I promise to manage everything well and continue learning.”
Just as the atmosphere reached its peak, the butler entered and announced loudly:
“Mrs. Harrison Senior has arrived with gifts!”
Jackson’s mother swept in radiantly. Jackson stepped forward to open the gift box–it was filled with gold jewelry and the deed to a private beachfront villa.

“Congratulations, Vanessa! We’ll be calling you Madam CEO from now on,” Mrs. Harrison gushed, warmly clasping Vanessa’s hands. Jackson stood nearby, love practically spilling from his eyes.
While everyone celebrated, the Harrison family butler quietly pulled me aside.
“Mrs. Harrison Senior said next Saturday’s family dinner has been moved to today at the Anderson house. She also wants you to return to the Harrison ancestral home with her after dinner to prepare for tomorrow’s memorial service for the family ancestors.”
I froze, my hands trembling slightly at my sides.
Just then, someone in the living room loudly asked:
“Both the Andersons and Harrisons have given Vanessa gifts. What about Mia’s gift?”
“Gift? Mia should be grateful they haven’t kicked her out yet!”
“Exactly! If she were my family member, I’d have removed her from the family registry after she
slept with her sister’s fiancé. So embarrassing!”
I dug my nails into my palms, barely stopping myself from blurting out the truth about what happened that night.
Jackson’s assistant found me and shoved a box into my hands:
“Mr. Harrison says to take this in and give it to Miss Vanessa.”
Opening it, I found three handwritten apology letters.
“Mr. Harrison says you need to read these aloud in front of everyone.”
After a moment, I let out a soft laugh and nodded in agreement.
Jackson wanted me to publicly apologize to Vanessa for what happened years ago. At the same time,
he wanted to legitimize Emma, allowing her to officially take the Harrison name.
“Jackson, why go through all this trouble? Soon, everything will be back to how it should be.”
Fifteen minutes later, I approached Vanessa with the apology letters in hand.
The onlookers whispered, “Look, is she about to cause another scene?”

Vanessa watched me, her smile deepening.
“Mia, do you have a gift for me?”
Clearly, she knew the purpose of these apology letters.
I flashed a self–deprecating smile, then turned and walked toward Jackson instead.
“Oh my God, what is she doing? She’s not going to pull something outrageous on her sister’s big day,
is she?”
