Chapter 8
He had ice blocks flown in from Mont Blanc to fill a hundred–square–meter cold storage facility, creating a half–body ice sculpture for Vanessa. He hired every top luxury wedding dress designer in the world to create a multi–million dollar gown custom–made for her. He booked Ireland’s Luttrellstown Castle for their wedding venue and published their love story as a book distributed worldwide, ensuring everyone knew their romantic journey.
Both the Anderson and Harrison families seemed reinvigorated by the upcoming nuptials. High society no longer gossiped about the “wicked ex–wife” Mia who had supposedly requested the divorce, but instead marveled at how Jackson and Vanessa, the story’s true protagonists, had finally found happiness after enduring hardship.
But only Jackson knew the truth: the more he did for Vanessa, the more uncertain he became.
He increasingly felt that the ice sculpture’s face should have been Mia’s, that the wedding dress should have adorned a pregnant Mia, that the ancient castle should have housed a chapter of his story with Mia.
In the quiet of night, he often wondered: Hadn’t Mia said she was just taking Lily out for a while? Why hadn’t they returned yet?
He remembered the books Mia loved to read and walked into the study, only to find it empty. He recalled Lily’s childish drawings and entered the nursery, but no trace remained.
Those days of “Jackson, Mia” and the timid “Daddy” from his daughter’s lips now seemed so distant
from his current life.
Yet every morning, he would snap back to clarity, convinced that Vanessa was the one he loved–he
couldn’t betray Vanessa.
Until one day, having returned early from checking wedding arrangements at the castle, he overheard a conversation between Vanessa and Emma’s biological father on the phone in their private residence.
“Thankfully my parents favored me over Mia just because she wasn’t a boy. Otherwise, I couldn’t have dumped Jackson and run off abroad with you for so long. If I hadn’t gotten pregnant, and if you hadn’t disappeared… Why are you even contacting me now? I’m about to get married… Please, as if I’d have an affair with you after the wedding…”

Chapter 8
Jackson felt as though his blood was flowing backward, his chest filled with emotions he couldn’t distinguish between anger and heartbreak.
He quietly left the residence and sat in his car smoking all night.
As dawn broke, he made a phone call.
“I need you to investigate everything that happened after Mia’s birth, and also Vanessa’s activities when she went abroad back then.”
Afterward, he called to cancel all wedding preparations.
The Harrison family moved quickly. Within half a day, he received a call back.
“Jackson, I never imagined Vanessa would actually…”
“Sigh, just come home and see for yourself!”
His mother hung up with a deep sigh.
Jackson’s heart sank to the bottom. He immediately drove to the Harrison family estate, jumping out of the car before even turning off the engine, and rushed into the living room.
His parents sat on the sofa, sighing heavily, with about ten documents spread across the table.
Clearly, they already knew everything.
After reading through all the materials with trembling hands, Jackson staggered back a few steps, nearly blacking out and collapsing.
His mother was furious, already taking her blood pressure medication.
“We thought Vanessa truly loved you, but it turns out she never cared about you at all–she was just looking for a way to leave you and run wild! Poor Mia, everyone has misunderstood her all these years!”
As it turned out, after giving birth to Vanessa, Mrs. Anderson had desperately wanted a son. She wanted “flowers first, then fruit,” but things didn’t go as planned.
