Chapter 16
The moment Savannah received the marriage certificate, her mind went blank
Never in a million years had she imagined that the man she would end up marrying would be
Because of his long–standing ties with Tobias, she had heard bits and pieces about him over the years, ruthless, sharp and utterly profit–crven
A man like that never did anything without a reason
So when Rafael first called her, Savannah had been completely caught off guard. She couldn’t make sense of it and didn’t give him an answer right away
The only explanation she could come up with was that Rafael intended to use her as a pawn against Tobias
So when he later suggested she join his company, Savannah turned him down without hesitation.
7 don’t know what your real motives are, but let me be clear: I’m nothing to Tobias. He’s always kept me at a distance, never letting me near the core operations of Duncan Technology. If you think you can use me to get to him, don’t bother
To her surprise, Rafael only chuckled in response, low and unbothered.
“You’ve got the wrong idea.
Tve heard about your capabilities for a long time. After being tied to Tobias’s side for so many years, I imagine you’ve long been itching to return to the business world”
Savannah’s heart trembled faintly.
He wasn’t wrong. If it hadn’t been for Tobias’s constant suppression, she would never have ended up like this.
Rafael had offered her generous terms, more than enough to sway her and even promised to help pay off all her debts
So she agreed. But deep down, she had always seen him as someone dangerous, unpredictable. That kind of person made her uneasy and she hated the feeling.
Still, since she had already taken this step, she resolved to find her footing first and keep a safe distance from him.
She stood still, lost in thought, when Rafael leaned lazily against the wall, his eyes fixed on her with amused interest.
“What’s going on in that head of yours?”
She had been standing in silence for ten minutes and he had spent all ten watching her without looking away.
Rafael naturally had a pair of enchanting peach blossom eyes. No matter who he looked at he always seemed affectionate, as if his gaze could stir up the air around him. Under such eyes, Savannah felt her ears flush.
She quickly turned her head, flustered.

“Nothing. Didn’t you say you were taking me to the company today? Let’s go.”
Rafael clearly didn’t buy it. He studied her for a few silent seconds.
But he didn’t press the issue. Instead, he simply smiled, opened the car door and gently fastened her seatbelt for her.
The movements were smooth and practiced like he had done it countless times.
‘Are you always this considerate to everyone?” Savannah asked without thinking.
Hearing that, Rafael froze for a moment. Savannah instantly regretted asking such a question. After all, they were nothing more than a contractual couple; she had no right to question him like
that.
Just as she began scolding herself internally for overstepping, she caught sight of the faint curve at Rafael’s lips.
‘I thought we were already married. Isn’t this what I should be doing?”
She didn’t know if she was imagining it, but his voice sounded almost gentle.
Still, she quickly brushed the thought aside and replied quietly, “Let’s go.”
Half an hour later, the car rolled to a stop in front of the company.
As the two walked into the building side by side, the receptionists at the front desk whispered to
each other.
‘Wow, this is the first time I’ve seen a woman get out of President Raven’s car.”
The girl beside her gasped softly. “Seriously. But doesn’t she kind of look like his ‘first love“?”
