Chapter 20
Before this, Tobias had imagined countless times what Savannah might look like in a wedding
dress.
He had always believed that no matter what happened, Savannah would never truly leave him.
But he had never expected to witness a scene like this, Savannah, dressed in a wedding gown, smiling so brightly at another man.
That faint smile at the corner of her lips cut deep into Tobias’s chest. He stood frozen, suddenly feeling like he couldn’t breathe.
He forced a smile, tugging stiffly at the corners of his mouth and after a long pause, finally managed to speak.
“Savannah, did you get Rafael to stage all this just to get back at me? If that’s what this is, then congratulations. You’ve succeeded. Let’s stop playing, okay? Come back with me.”
Savannah hadn’t expected Tobias to find her so quickly. Then again, it would’ve been strange if someone like him couldn’t.
She looked at him; just a few days had passed, yet he looked like a different man.
His eyes were bloodshot, dark circles weighed beneath them, his once perfectly styled hair now a disheveled mess falling over his forehead and those sunken eyes held nothing but exhaustion.
“Tobías, you’re overthinking. This was never a game to begin with.”
Without saying another word, she pulled the marriage certificate from her bag and unfolded it in
front of him.
“Let me introduce you. This is my husband, Rafael.”
The vivid certificate lay open before his eyes. Tobias’s pupils contracted sharply, his heart twisting in a tight, painful knot.
Rafael casually wrapped an arm around Savannah’s shoulders, his brow raised in a gesture that was half a tease, half a claim.
“Mr. Duncan, I invited you to our wedding, not to today’s fitting. Talking like that to my wife the moment you see her, don’t you think that’s a little rude?”
His tone was lazy but full of provocation.
Tobias had already been holding back his anger, but now his fury flared.
“Rafael, what lies have you been spreading behind my back? Don’t get too smug; marriage can end in divorce just as easily.”
“Savannah, don’t trust him. He’s not who you think he is!”
What he got in return was Rafael’s mocking sneer.
“Mr. Duncan, you still don’t get it, do you? Even if I’m not a good man, staying with you is far more dangerous for Savannah.”
Tobias’s rage finally snapped under the constant provocation. He clenched his fists and swung at Rafael.
“Rafael, who the hell do you think you are?! How dare you get between me and Savannah?!”
4:09 am M MOA.
“Don’t think I don’t know your real motive. You’re only using her to get to me! A man as ruthless as you doesn’t deserve to be by her side!”
The punch wasn’t fast, more for show than harm, yet the fist, which Rafael could’ve easily dodged, landed squarely on his face.
Rafael stumbled back a few steps, blood trickling from the corner of his lips.
“Tobias, you’ve gone too far!”
At that moment, Savannah stepped in between them, her voice sharp and firm.
