Chapter 4
After I took over the family business, my life turned into a nonstop grind.
If I wasn’t at the factory, I was city–hopping, closing deals. My ears were basically on strike from all the chaos.
But hustle paid off. With Freya in my corner and a ton of sweat, the company kept climbing. I landed contracts people would kill for.
Even at family dinners, my parents couldn’t shut up about how they should’ve handed me the reins sooner.
One day, I finally got a break and made plans to hit the mall with Freya.
I waited at the curb, getting more annoyed by the second.
Right when I was about to bail, a flashy Rolls–Royce with a try–hard license plate rolled up.
I groaned. “If you took any longer, I would’ve assumed we rescheduled.”
Then the window rolled down–and boom. Terrance’s stupidly gorgeous face popped up like a plot twist.
Noticing my shock, he casually said, “Freya’s caught up. She asked me to grab you first.”
Terrance Felton, CEO–level busy, playing driver? Yeah, okay.
Once I got in, silence hit hard.
We tossed around the usual awkward stuff–eaten yet, how’s life.
Then nothing.
Right when I was about to recycle another pointless question, my phone blared to life.
The street was loud, so I hit speaker without thinking.
Cecilia’s screechy voice tore through the car.
“Are you blind?! I sent you a ton of messages! Don’t you have a brain?!”
Classic Cecilia. I was used to her screaming matches. But Terrance? Guy was raised on silver spoons and silence–I had no clue how he’d react.
I peeked at him in the rearview. Nothing. Totally unbothered.
I cleared my throat.
“If you’ve got something to say, say it. You’re on Do Not Disturb for a reason. I don’t have

time for your drama.”

She hated that. I could feel the rage through the phone, but she forced herself to chill.
“I heard your company’s doing well. Don’t forget how you got there! If I hadn’t married into the Spencer family, would you even be this successful? Half that company’s success is thanks to ME!”
I’d seen shameless–but this? This was a whole new level.
I almost laughed out loud.
“So what, you want me to hand over the CEO title now?”
Meant it as pure sarcasm–of course she didn’t catch that.
“Finally, some sense. But I won’t take everything–just wire me fifty million for now. I’ll hit you up again when I need more.”
