Chapter 50
Chapter 50
Byron got home, planning to take Zack out for lunch and warn him not to get swayed by Sylvia. But after calling Zack’s name a few times with no response from upstairs, a knot of unease tightened in his chest.
He rushed upstairs. Zack wasn’t in his room. Byron’s unease grew. He immediately called for Louis, the family butler. Learning Zack’s whereabouts, face darkened instantly.
Zack had gone to Sylvia’s place! Byron hurried downstairs, got in his car, and sped towards Sylvia’s neighborhood.
Ding dong! The doorbell rang at the villa.
Sylvia, busy in the kitchen, called out, “Zack, can you get the door? It’s probably Jolie.” Jolie was her assistant, who had some connections in Silverton and had been helping her find a manufacturer for her medical patches.
Though Sylvia knew that with Byron interfering, finding a suitable manufacturer would be even harder now.
Zack and Ruby were playing with toys on the floor. “Okay!” Zack chirped happily and ran to the door.
But when he opened it, it wasn’t Jolie. It was Byron, his face thunderous.
“Dad? What are you doing here?” Zack’s face went pale. He realized he’d stayed too long; if he’d gone home earlier, his dad wouldn’t have found out he’d
snuck over.
Byron shot him a glare, intending to drag the boy away immediately, but something made him step inside the house instead.
“Hi, mister!” Ruby scrambled up clumsily from the floor when she saw Byron enter, greeting him with a sunny smile.
Every time Byron saw Ruby, he remembered she was Sylvia’s child with another man, and a familiar discomfort settled in. Despite this thought, looking
at Ruby’s adorable face softened him. He managed a quiet “Hi,” and couldn’t resist gently pinching her chubby cheek.
Ruby giggled, her little mouth wide.
Byron suddenly thought even this child was more sensible than Sylvia. “Where’s your mom?” He asked, lifting Ruby onto the sofa.
Ruby pointed a chubby finger towards the kitchen. “Mommy’s making yummy food for me and Zack.”
Byron narrowed his eyes and walked towards the kitchen.
Sylvia, unaware Byron had arrived, was methodically working in the kitchen. Byron stood at the doorway, his expression growing complex.
She looked just like she used to three years ago at the Blair estate, wearing an apron like a housewife, her movements stirring a sense of familiarity.
Back then, although Sylvia prepared elaborate meals for him daily, Byron had ignored her efforts, often going out for business dinners without a word, leaving her alone with a table of cold food and the uncertainty of when he’d return.
For a moment, Byron felt lost in the memory.
Sylvia had just taken some freshly baked bread out of the oven. Turning around, she saw Byron standing there. Her expression instantly turned glacial.
“Get out. Who let you in?” Sylvia frowned.
Byron snapped back to reality, his face hardening. The Sylvia before him was no longer the gentle, accommodating woman he remembered.
Sylvia returned to the living room, her face set. “Who let him in?” she demanded coldly.
Zack mumbled nervously, “It was me, Mom.”

“Don’t ever let him in again,” Sylvia instructed sharply.
Byron’s expression darkened. He grabbed Zack’s hand. “Come home with me.” If Zack weren’t here, wild horset couldn’t drag res và this placet he thought bitterly,
“Dad, I want to stay here,” Zack said hesitantly, looking up.
Byron looked furious enough to spit nails. How had he raised such a disloyal son? Had he switched sides already?
“Mr. Blair, please leave,” Sylvia said, holding the front door open.
Byron retorted irritably, “My son is here, and you’re telling me to leave?” He looked at Zack, who clearly didn’t want to go, feeling unwilling to back down To get Zack back, he resorted to his usual tactic–money.
Gritting his teeth, he pulled out his phone and opened his banking app’s transfer page. “Name your price.”
Smack! Sylvia slammed his phone shut, her face dangerously cold. “No amount of money will work. Get out.”
Zack sat with Ruby on the sofa, watching his dad get kicked out without showing any intention of leaving with him.
Byron’s face was terrifyingly dark. How dared this woman treat him like this! Had she forgotten everything? How she used to wait up for him, hoping held come home early from his dinners… He trailed off, suddenly silent.
He stormed back to his car, fuming, and snatched up his phone. Did she really think she could keep his son here and get away with it? He’d have someone tear this house down!
But for some reason, he hesitated, eventually lowering the phone.
He scoffed. ‘It’s not like I still have feelings for her,‘ he rationalized. ‘It’s for her daughter’s sake.‘ If he demolished the house, Ruby would suffer too. With that thought, he drove off, still fuming.
Sylvia spent the rest of the morning with the kids. Around two in the afternoon, her phone rang.
“Sylvia! We’ve had an accident on set! A lot of people are injured. Can you come right away?” It was Zander Gage, his voice laced with urgency.
“Okay, send me the location. I’m on my way.” Without a second thought, Sylvia grabbed her keys, telling the kids playing on the sofa, “Be good, stay inside, don’t wander off.”
She got in her car and headed towards the film set location.
Just as Sylvia’s car pulled away, another car parked down the street started its engine. Inside was Byron. He couldn’t believe he’d just sat there waiting for so long. He had a business dinner this afternoon!
Since Sylvia was gone, he should have gone straight back in to get Zack. But seeing the urgency in Sylvia’s expression as she got into her car, he found himself inexplicably following her.
Half an hour later, Sylvia arrived at a scenic park area, the outdoor location for Zander’s film shoot. Zander Gage was already waiting by the entrance. Dressed in a simple black shirt that emphasized his lean, tall frame, he exuded an effortless masculine charm.
Seeing Sylvia, he hurried over and explained the situation. During the filming of a scene involving horses, something went wrong, and over a dozen actors were injured. It was a major incident.
But after contacting local hospitals, none could take in so many patients at once. He immediately thought of Sylvia and called her.
“Take me to them,” Sylvia said without delay, striding forward purposefully.
Just then, Byron’s car pulled up some distance away. Watching Sylvia walk off side–by–side with Zander Gage, a sharp, unfamiliar pang of bitterness

‘So that’s why she was in such a rush,‘ he thought sourly. Not because of some emergency, but to meet up with a mar
