They all bowed their heads before leaving my office, closing the door behind them.
I sank back into my chair, overwhelmed. Both Aria and I would undergo significant transformations during the next full moon. I worried about the strain this would put on her. She was still adjusting to having Sage in her mind, and now she would face a physical transformation too. What if it was too much for her?
My thoughts were interrupted by a familiar scent approaching my door. Aria. I recognized her distinctive smell even before she knocked.
“Come in,‘ I called, my mood instantly lifting.
The door opened, and she stepped inside carrying a food tray. Her red–gold hair caught the afternoon light, and despite everything weighing on my mind, I couldn’t help but smile at the sight of her.
“You missed lunch,” she said simply, walking toward my desk. “I thought you might need something.”
I stood and took the tray from her, placing it on the coffee table. Then I pulled her into my arms, breathing her in.
“Thank you,” I murmured against her hair. “How are you feeling?”
She relaxed against me. “Good. A little tired, but Dr. Maya says that’s normal.”
My hand moved instinctively to her still–flat stomach. Our baby was growing there. The thought still amazed me.
“What did the elders want?” she asked, pulling back slightly to look at me.
“I told them about Sage,” I said, watching her reaction carefully. “And about the baby.”
Her eyes widened. “What did they say?”
“They were surprised, especially about Sage being a Primal Wolf. It’s extremely rare, Aria. You’re extraordinary.
She bit her lip. “And the baby?”
“They called our child a Moonchild–born of two Primal Wolves during a Blood Moon ritual. They said the pregnancy should progress normally, though maybe a bit faster toward the end
Aria’s hand joined mine on her stomach. “And what about the full moon? Will I… will I change like you?”
I nodded slowly. “Yes. Silas believes you’ll experience your first shift then. We’ll go through it together.”
‘I’m scared, Jace, she admitted, her voice small. “Sage is still so new to me. I’m just learning to hear her thoughts, to feel her presence. And now I’ll have to change forms too?”
I pulled her closer, wishing I could absorb her fears. I’ll be with you every step of the way. The first shift is the hardest, but I’ll he
through it.
She nodded against my chest, but I could feel her uncertainty. “What if I can’t control it? What if I hurt someone?
“You won’t, I promised. “Sage knows what to do. Shell guide you through the transformation. And I’ll be right there beside you.”
She sighed, her breath warm against my neck. “You didn’t eat your lunch.

I laughed at her sudden change of subject. “I got distracted by this beautiful woman who walked into my office.
Her cheeks flushed, and she playfully pushed at my chest. ‘Eat. You need your strength.”
Instead of letting her go, I pulled her closer and kissed her. What started as comfort quickly intensified, her body melting against mine.
“Jace, she gasped, fingers digging into my shoulders.
My control slipped a notch at the way she said my name. I pressed against her more firmly, one hand sliding under her shirt to feel her skin.
