Chapter 123
“we can’t proceed with the surgery without that imedication. Her current condition just isn’t stable enough without it.” “W–What?” Anathea felt a jolt of panic. For a second, she thought he’d misheard. “But I already paid for it. It was confirmed ”
“That’s true, but…” The doctor looked visibly uncomfortable. “From what I heard, the person who took it was one of the hospital’s top investors. He’s not someone we can reject.”
Top investor…
Anathea froze. Sinclair Group was the biggest investor at Castenea Central Hospital.
Sinclair Group… Gregory…
Hands trembling, Anathea immediately pulled out her phone and called Gregory, but his phone was turned off.
Her heart dropped. She quickly called Martin instead.
“Mrs. Sinclair, is everything alright?”
His voice felt like a lifeline to Anathea, and she clung to it urgently. “Where’s Gregory? I need to speak to him right now!” “Well” Martin’s voice faltered. “I honestly don’t know. His phone’s off. I haven’t been able to reach him either.” So even his assistant couldn’t get a hold of him.
Anathea felt her heart go cold. She turned to the doctor and clutched his sleeve. “Was that really the last dose in the entire hospital?”
The doctor nodded grimly. “Yes. And the final booster injection to prep Mrs. Jacobson’s body was already administered yesterday morning. There’s nothing left in storage now.”
Anathea stood frozen for a second. She’d been told that once that type of medication had been started, it couldn’t be interrupted before surgery. If it was…
Just then, a nurse rushed out of the operating room. “Something’s wrong! The patient’s vitals are crashing!”
Something inside Anathea shattered all at once. She stumbled, nearly collapsing.
Without wasting a second, the doctor rushed back in, but not before saying, “I heard the medicine was given to a patient named Whitman for post–op recovery. She’s coming in for a follow–up today. Maybe you can talk to her to see if she’s willing to give it up to you.”
But Anathea wasn’t listening anymore. All she heard was “Whitman“.
Gregory gave the only dose of medicine that could save Fiona’s life to Natalie–and merely for recovery?
Anathea’s breath caught in her throat. She staggered toward the front desk and asked the nurses where Natalie was scheduled to have her consultation. They weren’t sure and told her to ask around.
She looked out at the long row of consultation rooms. Her head was spinning, but she didn’t stop. She moved through the orthopedic wing room by room until finally, she spotted Nalie’s name on the appointment board.
Anathea stopped in her tracks.
Nearby, a few nurses were whispering among themselves.
“I heard she’s someone pretty important. When she got injured, the hospital pulled in every specialist they had. Even the director came personally. They used one of the two best medicines we had just to treat her.”
“And now they’re using the last dose to help with her recovery. Just for recovery! That’s wild! That medicine costs ten million a dose, right? And aren’t there rules that say one person can only get one dose?”

“Yeah, but you know how it is–rules are made by the ones with power. From what I heard, Ms. Whitman’s the one who saved Mr. Sinclair from drowning back in the day. People are saying she might be the next Mrs. Sinclair. To someone like him, 20 million means nothing.”
“No wonder. It all makes sense now. Still, I feel bad for the person who originally reserved that dose. They just snatched it away.
“Nothing can be done. Some people just have terrible luck.”
